With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Romario!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Romario closes the distance and clinches.
Rodriguez takes an elbow to the forehead.


It looks like Mario Rodriguez has been cut.
Romario creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Romario escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Romario fails with a takedown attempt.

Romario throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rodriguez blocks it with crossed arms.
Rodriguez is trying to pull guard but Romario has him pressed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodriguez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Romario uses from the top position.
Romario would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Rodriguez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Romario fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Romario pushes Rodriguez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Rodriguez stops a takedown attempt from Romario.
Rodriguez is looking to take this one to the mat.

Rodriguez stuffs the takedown attempt from Romario. Romario gets slowly back to his feet.

and Romario counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Rodriguez tries to clinch up.
Rodriguez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Romario tries to avoid it but Rodriguez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Romario to the ground. Romario escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Rodriguez is breathing heavily.

Romario fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rodriguez, pushing him back against the cage.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Romario.
Romario lands an elbow inside that Rodriguez shrugs off.


Mario Rodriguez's cut is getting worse.
Romario gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rodriguez.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Romario utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Romario lands an elbow just above Rodriguez 's eye.
Rodriguez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Romario lands an elbow that stopped Rodriguez in his tracks for a moment.


Mario Rodriguez's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Rodriguez takes an elbow to the forehead.

Rodriguez is rocked!

Romario pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Oh Rodriguez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Romario takes the fight into the clinch.
Romario has Rodriguez pressed up against the cage in a tight Thai clinch. Rodriguez is arching his back, trying to avoid the knees but a big one sneaks through from Romario - that's hurt Rodriguez badly! Oh, another knee lands and Rodriguez is covering up! The referee steps in to save him - possibly a bit early but Rodriguez doesn't seem to be complaining.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Luis Romario!
