PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rickey Schwartz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mustafa Jababeka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jababeka comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Goyang Dumang kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rickey Schwartz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mustafa Jababeka!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jababeka misses with a few strikes there.
As Jababeka backs away, Schwartz returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Mustafa Jababeka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jababeka ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Schwartz moves away.
Jababeka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jababeka uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Schwartz has time to react.
Jababeka looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Schwartz defending well as Jababeka loads up on a big left hand.

Schwartz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jababeka manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Schwartz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Schwartz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Schwartz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jababeka for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schwartz winds up and cracks Jababeka with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Schwartz wants to work for an arm triangle but Jababeka is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Schwartz is looking for a kimura but Jababeka is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Schwartz to get the leverage.
Well, if Schwartz is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rickey Schwartz dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Jab, jab by Jababeka - just one landing.
Schwartz ducks right into an uppercut from Jababeka.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Schwartz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jababeka smiles and moves away.
Schwartz shoots for a takedown but Jababeka saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
It seemed like Jababeka was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Schwartz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Jababeka keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rickey Schwartz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Schwartz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jababeka tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Schwartz is in Jababeka's guard.

Schwartz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jababeka is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jababeka misses the shot to the body.

Schwartz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jababeka manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jababeka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schwartz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Schwartz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Schwartz lands a couple of digs.

Schwartz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Schwartz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jababeka looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schwartz is one step ahead there.
Schwartz looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Schwartz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Schwartz stands up from Jababeka's guard - Schwartz perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jababeka rushes Schwartz and presses him up against the cage.
Schwartz is trying to pull guard but Jababeka has him pressed against the cage.
Schwartz is leaning against Jababeka and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Schwartz jumps guard but Jababeka turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Schwartz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jababeka uses from the top position.

Schwartz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jababeka doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Schwartz is tightening it up a little... Jababeka has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Jababeka reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Jababeka taps out! Nice BJJ there by Schwartz!
