Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gabriel Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vladislav Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua looks for the body kick but Volkov saw that one coming.
Volkov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Volkov on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Rua lets loose with a powerful body kick. Volkov will feel that in the morning.
Volkov moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
An inside leg kick lands from Rua.
Volkov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rua moves away.
Rua feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Rua connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Rua slaps away a takedown attempt from Volkov, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rua buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rua connects with a solid leg kick.
Volkov walks into a jab.
Volkov takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Volkov takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Rua slaps away a takedown attempt from Volkov, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gabriel Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladislav Volkov.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Rua uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Volkov has time to react.
A head kick misses from Rua.
Volkov misses with a takedown attempt - Rua sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rua lands a jab to the nose.
It looks like Vladislav Volkov has been cut.
Rua takes a kick to the side of the head.
Gabriel Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rua throws a leg kick which misses Volkov's front leg but catches the back leg as Volkov tries to avoid it.
Volkov shoots for a takedown but Rua saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
A right-left combo lands from Rua.
Volkov chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Rua can pounce on him.
Gabriel Rua is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rua lands a big head kick that sends Volkov tumbling to the mat! Rua takes a step backwards and waves Volkov back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Volkov is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rua ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Volkov's jaw. Volkov's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Rua does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Gabriel Rua!
Gabriel Rua opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
