PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edwardo Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guru Guru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Edwardo Campbell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Guru Guru!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Campbell wants to clinch
and Guru counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Campbell thinking.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Campbell enables Guru to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Campbell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Guru preventing the sweep.
Guru throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Campbell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Guru postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Campbell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Campbell is looking to sweep but instead, Guru has passed into half guard.
Campbell avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Guru.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guru works his foot free and advances to mount.
You get the feeling that Campbell really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Campbell wants to hold on but Guru pushes him away.
Guru really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Campbell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Campbell sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Guru slips a nice elbow through Campbell's hands, connecting with Campbell's forehead.
Campbell moves into full guard.
Campbell is wriggling around but Guru manages to pass to half guard.
Guru stops Campbell from getting back to his feet.
Guru is trying to control. Campbell wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Campbell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Guru is working for a kimura but Campbell is defending it quite comfortably.
Guru looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Guru tries to pass the half guard into mount. Campbell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Guru perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Campbell is looking to escape.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Guru frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Guru seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Campbell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Guru is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Guru is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Guru breaks from Campbell's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Guru is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Campbell has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Campbell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Guru throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Campbell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Guru is in Campbell's guard.
Guru must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Guru prevents Campbell from getting back to his feet.

Campbell is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Guru presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Campbell wants to stand but Guru has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Guru is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Guru has one foot on Campbell's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Guru closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Campbell did well to prevent Guru getting side control.

Campbell throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Campbell wants to improve his position but Guru is controlling well.
Campbell is looking to get back to is feet but Guru passes into side control.
Campbell regains half guard there - taking advantage of Guru's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Campbell regains full guard. Nicely done.

Guru decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Campbell, up you get!

Campbell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Guru to the mat! Guru manages to get full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Guru has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Campbell off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Guru throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Campbell was covering up waiting for the punch and Guru finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Campbell is looking to control Guru's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Campbell avoid being mounted?

Guru Guru showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Campbell takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Guru manages to break the clinch.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guru accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Guru slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Guru decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Guru wants to lay and pray for a moment but Campbell keeps working.

Guru Guru comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Guru has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
