Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guadalupe May (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Wates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David Wates will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Guadalupe May!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, David Wates!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
May shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wates defends it nicely.

Wates closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Wates wants to stand up but May has a hold of him and won't allow it.
May is not content to let Wates control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wates takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
May is doing well to control the position and prevent Wates from advancing to side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
May is staying active underneath Wates, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wates should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Wates is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. May doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wates.
Wates tries to pass to full mount but May defends it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Wates shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with May but May pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

May manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wates on his heels. He'll look to pass Wates's guard now, I'm sure.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wates is on top in guard.

Wates trying to control the position from guard on top but May is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
May is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wates wants to control from the top but May keeps moving.
Wates must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wates stops May from standing up.

Wates tries to free his leg and advance position but May is retaining full guard.
May wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Wates trying to control the position from guard on top but May is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wates being controlled here momentarily.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Wates trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wates closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. May did well to prevent Wates getting side control.
Wates is looking to take a break and control but May is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wates not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
May is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
May tries to get to full guard but Wates has control of the leg.
Wates is keen to just control but May is a slippery customer.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wates has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, May works to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Wates dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wates gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and May counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Wates fails to land the takedown.

May takes the fight into the clinch.
May blocks an uppercut.
Wates tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. May just stands there and leans against the cage.
Guadalupe May has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Wates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
May has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
May wants to take the fight to the mat but Wates manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Wates jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as May walks away with a smile on his face. Wates gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
May fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

May wants to clinch
and Wates counters with a left and a right that stings May.
Wates lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Guadalupe May has been cut.

May gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
May changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wates fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Wates moves into the clinch.
May jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wates walks away with a smile on his face. May gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Wates misses with a left hand

and May counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wates is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

This has been an exciting period of action!
May trying to hold on to Wates's head to control him but Wates postures up.

Wates prevents May from standing back up.
Wates is trying to control the action in half guard but May is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
May is controlling Wates's trapped leg to prevent Wates from advancing to side control.
Wates lands strikes from half guard.
Wates is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Wates is looking to stall here but May recovers full guard.
Wates wants to control from the top but May keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
May looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Wates tries to free his leg and advance position but May is retaining full guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
May keeping moving, preventing Wates from controlling successfully.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
May displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wates.

May closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wates did well to prevent May getting side control.
Wates has hold of May's hands but May slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
May will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

May looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wates keeping moving, preventing May from controlling successfully.

That was a close second round but I would say that Guadalupe May will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Wates has closed the distance and engaged May in a clinch.
May is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Wates tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. May smiles and moves away.

May has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wates is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

May not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Wates is looking to stand up but May isn't so interested in that idea.
May has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wates is proving hard to escape from.
May seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

May's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
May fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wates tries to counter with a clinch but May shakes him off and moves away.
Nice sprawl there from May as Wates shoots in.

A momentary lapse in concentration from May enables Wates to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. May manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wates pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. May is keeping the position for now.

May has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wates can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

May working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wates doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but May is tightening it up a little... Wates has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Wates reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Wates taps out! Nice BJJ there by May!
