PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jean Du Pont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eisenstein Priestley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eisenstein Priestley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Du Pont!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eisenstein Priestley!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Priestley gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Du Pont tightens his grip and picks Priestley up, before dumping him to the ground. Priestley manages to land in guard.
Du Pont wants to control from the top but Priestley keeps moving.
Priestley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Du Pont manages to get himself to full guard.
Du Pont trying to control the position.
Du Pont bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Priestley's guard.
Priestley is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Du Pont trying to control the position from guard on top but Priestley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Du Pont wanted to stand there but Priestley had control of the position.
Du Pont missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Du Pont trying to control but Priestley is working from the bottom.
Du Pont looking to sit in guard and control but Priestley gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Du Pont is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Du Pont working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Priestley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Priestley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Priestley is looking to stand up but Du Pont won't let him.

Du Pont controls Priestley momentarily but Priestley frees himself.
Du Pont wants to sweep here but Priestley controlling him for the moment.
Du Pont trying to keep a closed guard but Priestley is proving a slippery customer.

Priestley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Du Pont, up you get!
Priestley takes a swing at Du Pont's ribcage but misses.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Priestley misses with a straight right.
Du Pont looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Priestley is fending him off so far but Du Pont persists. Nope, Priestley circles away and we're back to standing.
Du Pont tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Priestley counters with a right hand to the body.

Priestley gets a clinch.
Du Pont blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Du Pont takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Jean Du Pont has been cut.
Priestley leaning his opponent against the cage.
Priestley misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Du Pont.
Priestley lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Priestley landing knees to the head.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Priestley stops a takedown attempt from Du Pont.
Priestley tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Du Pont gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Du Pont is breathing heavily.
Du Pont wants to pass the guard but Priestley is defending well.
Du Pont prevents Priestley from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Eisenstein Priestley will probably get the nod.

Priestley darts in and clinches Du Pont up against the cage.
Du Pont is working for takedown but Priestley is calmly controlling the position for now.
Du Pont tries to score a body lock takedown but Priestley shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Priestley lands an elbow inside that Du Pont shrugs off.
Priestley is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Priestley landing knees to the body.
Du Pont tries to pull guard but Priestley won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jean Du Pont. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Du Pont is trying to break free.
Priestley manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Priestley lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Du Pont has had enough of the clinch but Priestley keeps him there for the moment.

Du Pont decides to pull guard.
Du Pont controls Priestley momentarily but Priestley frees himself.

Du Pont working for a triangle but Priestley defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Priestley wants to stand but Du Pont has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Du Pont will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Du Pont has his foot on Priestley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Priestley works his way back into a safe position though.

Priestley wants to stand but Du Pont is controlling his posture from full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Priestley swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Du Pont.
Du Pont ducks straight into an uppercut from Priestley and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Du Pont maanges to regain guard straight away.


Du Pont is rocked!


Jean Du Pont's cut is getting worse.
Priestley wants to stand and escape but instead Du Pont has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Oh Du Pont is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Du Pont postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Priestley is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Du Pont, into his guard.
Du Pont seems to have got his legs back now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Du Pont is looking for a triangle but Priestley pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Du Pont managing to control the position.
Du Pont wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eisenstein Priestley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Du Pont keeps the fight on the outside.
Priestley throws a head kick that misses.
Du Pont fails with a takedown attempt.
Priestley swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Priestley takes the fight into the clinch.
Priestley misses with an elbow strike.
Du Pont can't break the clinch.
Du Pont is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Priestley pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Du Pont blocks an elbow strike.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Priestley lands an elbow just above Du Pont 's eye.

Priestley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Priestley misses with a body kick.

Du Pont shoots in and bounces Priestley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Priestley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Du Pont would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Priestley wants to sweep here but Du Pont controlling him for the moment.
Du Pont prevents Priestley from getting back to his feet.
Priestley really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Du Pont. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Du Pont wants to control from the top but Priestley keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Du Pont is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Du Pont throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Priestley swinging wilding here.

Priestley drives through and clinches with Du Pont against the cage.
Priestley stalls.
Du Pont blocks an elbow strike from Priestley.

Priestley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Du Pont with a lazy takedown attempt
and Priestley counters with a lovely shot to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jean Du Pont. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Du Pont tries to clinch but Priestley is having none of it.
Priestley throws a right and a left that both miss.

Priestley moves into the clinch successfully.
Priestley with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Priestley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Du Pont wants a takedown but no success here.
Du Pont blocks an elbow strike.

Priestley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Du Pont shoots in looking for a takedown. Priestley tries to sprawl out of it but Du Pont keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Priestley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Priestley doesn't manage to clinch there - Du Pont circles away.

Priestley tries to land a knee to the head but Du Pont blocks with his arms.
Priestley tries to land knees in the clinch but Du Pont avoids the damage to the body.

Du Pont tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Priestley smiles and moves away.

Du Pont has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Priestley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Eisenstein Priestley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Priestley lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Priestley blocks an elbow strike from Du Pont.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eisenstein Priestley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Priestley winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
