PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Aguirre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Negro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge Negro will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Reggie Aguirre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jorge Negro!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Negro drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Negro working the head with strikes.
Aguirre is working to avoid the ground and pound but Negro connects with a decent elbow.


Aguirre is rocked!
Negro controlling the position.
Aguirre sneaks back into half guard.

Negro escapes and gets back to his feet.

Aguirre closes the distance and clinches.
Aguirre wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Aguirre wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Negro has him pressed against the cage.

Aguirre breaks from the clinch.

Negro forces Aguirre back against the cage and clinches.

Negro works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Negro trying to control the position from guard on top but Aguirre is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aguirre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Aguirre lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Negro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aguirre gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Negro is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Negro is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Negro looking to control.
Negro pulls Aguirre in to control the position.
Negro looking to control but Aguirre passes into half guard.
Aguirre will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Negro trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Negro wants to hold on but Aguirre pushes him away.
Aguirre controlling from the full mount.

Aguirre is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Negro has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Negro is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Aguirre has taken his back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Negro trying to control the hands but Aguirre breaks the grip.
Negro turns into Aguirre and is now in his guard.
Negro is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Negro wants to control from the top but Aguirre keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aguirre has a closed guard, preventing Negro from standing up.

Negro closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Aguirre is looking for a sweep.

Aguirre tries to bench press Negro off him but Negro keeps the position.
Aguirre really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Aguirre is trying to control Negro's posture but Negro avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Negro goes for an armbar but Aguirre turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Aguirre.
Aguirre has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Negro manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Aguirre manages to get himself to full guard.

Negro wants to get up but he can't break Aguirre's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Aguirre is looking to stand up but Negro isn't so interested in that idea.
Negro loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Negro wants to get back to his feet.
Negro thows a huge punch but Aguirre dodges it nicely.

Negro is trying to control. Aguirre wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Aguirre moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Negro sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Aguirre's guard.
Aguirre is trying to control but can't.
Negro wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aguirre keeps working.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Negro connects with a nice short shot to Aguirre's temple.
Negro is thwarting Aguirre's attempts to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Negro looks to land a combination. Aguirre sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Negro darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Aguirre is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jorge Negro showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Aguirre's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Negro wants to pass the guard but Aguirre is keeping the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Aguirre is staying active underneath Negro, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Aguirre wants to improve his position but Negro is controlling well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Negro shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Negro throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Negro is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Negro wants to control the pace but Aguirre is squirming around nicely.
Aguirre is wriggling around trying to escape.
Negro sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Negro fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Negro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Negro wants to control the pace but Aguirre is squirming around nicely.

Aguirre controls the position.
Aguirre is squirming around, avoiding Negro's attempts to control the action.

Aguirre defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Negro.
Aguirre wants to hold on but Negro pushes him away.
Negro can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Aguirre is looking to escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Aguirre tries to reverse the position but Negro maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jorge Negro comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Negro has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
