PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Andrews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Maurer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andrews comes into the arena with Knock You Down blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darrell Andrews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sergio Maurer!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andrews shoots and misses
and Maurer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Maurer stuffs the takedown attempt from Andrews. Andrews gets slowly back to his feet.
Maurer wants to counter with a clinch but Andrews pushes him away.

I was talking to Andrews's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Maurer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Andrews is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Maurer is defending well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Andrews has hold of one of Maurer's legs. Maurer is fighting the takedown attempt but Andrews gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Andrews will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Andrews isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Maurer stacks Andrews on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Maurer!

Andrews tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maurer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Andrews somewhat.

Well Maurer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
