PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ward Jensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Casimiro Ambrogi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Casimiro Ambrogi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ward Jensen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Casimiro Ambrogi!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jensen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ambrogi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ambrogi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jensen is controlling him.
Jensen trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ambrogi's guard.
Jensen lands a couple of elbows.
Ambrogi is trying to keep Jensen in close.

Jensen stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Ambrogi looks winded!

Jensen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jensen wants to stand but Ambrogi is controlling his arm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jensen content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Jensen is trying to get an arm triangle but Ambrogi is defending well.

Jensen stands up and beckons Ambrogi to his feet.
Jensen closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ambrogi circles away.
Ambrogi throws a counter combo.

and Ambrogi moves into the clinch.

Ambrogi is in close to Jensen's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jensen is controlling Ambrogi's posture.
Ambrogi distracts Jensen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jensen holds on and takes a little breather.
Jensen trying to keep a closed guard but Ambrogi is proving a slippery customer.

Jensen keeping moving, preventing Ambrogi from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ambrogi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jensen's half guard.
Jensen tries to get to full guard but Ambrogi has control of the leg.

Jensen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Ambrogi throws an elbow that misses. Jensen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ambrogi's guard. Nice move by Jensen!


Jensen drops back looking for a leg! Ambrogi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ambrogi manages to kick Jensen off! Jensen jumps back into Ambrogi's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ambrogi has a closed guard, preventing Jensen from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jensen distracts Ambrogi with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Jensen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ambrogi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ambrogi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ambrogi!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jensen tries to buck Ambrogi off but Ambrogi is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ward Jensen dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Jensen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ambrogi sprawls well initially but Jensen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jensen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ambrogi is just riding it out for now. Jensen eventually gives up the hold.
Jensen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ambrogi can do to turn this around?
Jensen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ambrogi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jensen is looking for a kimura here.

Jensen seems to be looking for submissions.
Ambrogi is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jensen wants to work for an arm triangle but Ambrogi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jensen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Jensen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ambrogi sees it coming and defends easily.
Ward Jensen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
It looks like Jensen is going to stand back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jensen is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Well, if Jensen is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Ambrogi wants to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ambrogi can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ambrogi regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jensen wants to get up but he can't break Ambrogi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ambrogi controls Jensen momentarily but Jensen frees himself.

Ambrogi is working an open guard so Jensen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ambrogi leaves Jensen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ambrogi is looking for the big counter here.
Ambrogi stuffs the takedown attempt from Jensen. Jensen gets slowly back to his feet.

Jensen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ambrogi to the mat! Ambrogi manages to get full guard.
Jensen is looking to work some ground and pound but Ambrogi has wrist control.

Jensen decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jensen shoots in looking for a takedown but Ambrogi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jensen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ward Jensen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ambrogi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jensen manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ambrogi wants to stand and escape but instead Jensen has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Ambrogi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jensen wanted to stand there but Ambrogi had control of the position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jensen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jensen dives in for a single leg takedown but Ambrogi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A countering left hand to the body from Ambrogi misses.
Jensen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ambrogi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ambrogi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Ambrogi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jensen is trying to defend but Ambrogi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ambrogi drops an elbow to the side of Jensen's head.

Ambrogi is working for a submission of some sort.
Jensen is looking to control Ambrogi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jensen avoid being mounted?
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jensen is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ambrogi is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jensen is trying is best to control the position here.
Ambrogi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Jensen looks for a takedown but Ambrogi sprawls well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ambrogi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jensen to the mat! Jensen manages to get full guard.
Jensen has control of Ambrogi's left arm, preventing Ambrogi from doing any damage.
Ambrogi looking to sit in guard and control but Jensen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jensen is looking to stand up but Ambrogi won't let him.
Jensen postures up.

Jensen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jensen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jensen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ambrogi has his foot on Jensen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jensen works his way back into a safe position though.

Jensen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ambrogi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jensen is controlling him.

Jensen gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Jensen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ambrogi tries to avoid it but Jensen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ambrogi to the ground. Ambrogi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Despite the aggression on Ambrogi's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
No luck for Jensen with that takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ambrogi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jensen's half guard.
Ambrogi trying to control the action but Jensen is working from the bottom.
Ambrogi thows a huge punch but Jensen dodges it nicely.
Jensen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jensen.

Jensen has Ambrogi pulled in close to control his posture.

And that's the end of the fight!
Casimiro Ambrogi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jensen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
