PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hazwan Hamid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideki Masada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masada has chosen "Tokyo Drift (Restage Remix)" by Teriyaki Boyz as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hazwan Hamid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hideki Masada!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Hamid with that takedown attempt.
Hamid will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nice sprawl there from Masada as Hamid shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hazwan Hamid. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Masada decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Masada decides to return to a standing position.
Masada has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Hamid is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Masada closes the distance and clinches.
Hamid has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Masada pulls guard effortlessly.
Masada is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Masada is nestled in close to Hamid, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hamid might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Masada wants to free his trapped foot but Hamid is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Masada decides to stand and escape the position.
Masada tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hamid sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Masada somewhat.

Masada shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hamid's guard.

Masada gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Masada lands with a nice body kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Masada is defended easily by Hamid.
Hamid shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Masada defends it nicely.

Masada moves into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Masada cracks Hamid with a nice body shot.
Hamid takes a knee to the side of the body.
Hamid has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Masada after a bit of a struggle.
Hamid is breathing heavily.
Hamid tries to break free but Masada pushes him back against the cage.
Hamid wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Masada breaks from the clinch.

Hamid gets caught napping as Masada dives in and scores a takedown. Hamid manages to retain guard.
Masada has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Masada looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Masada gets to his feet. Hamid looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Masada gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Masada jumps into guard, dragging Hamid to the mat.
Masada throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Hamid trying to stand up but can't free himself from Masada's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Masada throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Masada lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hamid is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Masada controlling from the top position.
Masada passes into half guard.
Masada content to control rather than advance.

Masada decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Hamid gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Masada is looking to work some ground and pound but Hamid has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hideki Masada dominated that round.
That's time! Hamid's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Masada clinches up against the cage.

Masada manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hamid passes Masada's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hamid not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Masada is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hamid pulls his head out easily.
Hamid throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Masada is controlling Hamid's trapped leg to prevent Hamid from advancing to side control.

Hamid is working for a kimura here but Masada manages to reverse the position and he's now in Hamid's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Masada stands up and beckons Hamid to his feet.
Hamid shoots for a double leg takedown but Masada sprawls well. He's pushed Hamid's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Masada moves into the clinch successfully.

Masada breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Masada fails with the takedown.
Masada dives in for a single leg takedown but Hamid sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Masada feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Masada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hamid is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Masada is controlling him.
Hamid can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Masada controls the pace.
Masada landing with the ground and pound.
Masada throws a big elbow that misses.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Masada's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Masada is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Let's hope that Masada has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Masada changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hamid looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Masada stands up.

Masada forces Hamid back against the cage and clinches.

Masada works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Masada stands and steps away. Hamid gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hamid enables Masada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hamid manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Masada chips away with some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Masada decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hamid, up you get!
Masada dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hamid. That did some damage!
Masada throws a series of punches but Hamid moves out of range.

Masada closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hamid's guard.
Hamid tries to strike from the bottom.

Masada stands and steps away. Hamid gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Masada lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hideki Masada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hamid has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Masada is on him like a limpet, forcing Hamid back against the cage.

Hamid's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hamid lands a jab to Masada's midsection.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Masada is looking to take a break and control but Hamid is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Masada drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hamid manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Masada has Hamid in his guard.

Masada has a closed guard, preventing Hamid from standing up.
Masada is pulling down on Hamid's head to control his posture.
Hamid throws an elbow that misses. Masada uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hamid's guard. Nice move by Masada!

Masada is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hideki Masada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Masada pushes down on Hamid's leg and manages to get into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hideki Masada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Masada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
