PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Conor Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Azamat Gashimov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gashimov is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Conor Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Azamat Gashimov!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gashimov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva is looking to control Gashimov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Silva avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gashimov is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Gashimov stands up and beckons Silva to join him on the feet.
Gashimov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Silva is looking for a counter combo.

Gashimov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Silva manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gashimov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Silva wants to sweep but no luck.
Gashimov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Silva is trying to control the position but Gashimov postures up.
Silva wants to stand up but Gashimov is controlling him.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Silva tries for a takedown but Gashimov sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Silva lands a head kick!

Gashimov drives through with a takedown into guard.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Gashimov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Gashimov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Silva is keeping the position for now.

Gashimov trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gashimov controlling from the top position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gashimov advances position into side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A lull in the action here.

Gashimov has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gashimov dodges the punch combination from Silva.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gashimov drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Silva's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Gashimov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Gashimov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Silva defends it well.
Well, if Gashimov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Gashimov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Silva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gashimov seems to be looking for submissions.

Silva is looking for a sweep. Gashimov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Silva slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gashimov is stalling in the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gashimov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Silva's face as Gashimov controls the position.

Gashimov working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Gashimov swings around for an armbar but Silva sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gashimov's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gashimov holds on and takes a little breather.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gashimov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Silva works over Gashimov with some ground and pound from guard.
Gashimov managing to control the position.
Gashimov striking off his back but it's not causing Silva any problems.

Gashimov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.
Gashimov is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Azamat Gashimov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Silva's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Gashimov shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Silva has his foot on Gashimov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gashimov works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gashimov stays in close to Silva's body and controls the position.
Silva can't keep his opponent in guard - Gashimov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Silva is looking to escape.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gashimov in particular looking to stall.
Gashimov wants to pass to mount but Silva is defending the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gashimov is working for a kimura but Silva is defending it quite comfortably.
Gashimov is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Azamat Gashimov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Let's hope that Gashimov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Silva gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gashimov to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Azamat Gashimov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Gashimov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Azamat Gashimov spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
