PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Karl Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stachu Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karl Patton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stachu Jones!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Patton pinned against the cage. Patton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Patton tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Jones manages to circle out of the way.

Patton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jones's half guard.
Jones manages to get to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patton controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Patton postures up.
Patton wants to stand but Jones is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jones throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jones in particular looking to stall.
Patton keeping hold of Jones's head, controlling as best he can.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Patton is looking to improve his position.
Patton is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones is looking to take a break and control but Patton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jones is working for an americana but Patton has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Jones was thinking about the submission.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Patton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Patton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Patton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Patton gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karl Patton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Patton pushes off an throws an elbow but Jones leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Jones has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Patton after a bit of a struggle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Stachu Jones will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Jones rushes Patton and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jones with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Patton just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jones is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Patton gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Jones breaks from the clinch.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Karl Patton has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stachu Jones.

Jones tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Patton decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!

Jones closes the distance and pushes Patton back into the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Jones as Patton tries to tie him up.
Patton wants to break the clinch but can't.

Jones tries to pull guard but Patton holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.
Jones is working for takedown but Patton is calmly controlling the position for now.

Patton breaks from the clinch.

Jones gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Patton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jones is trying to control the position but Patton postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Patton stands up from Jones's guard - Patton perhaps looking for a knockout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Patton tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jones avoids it.
Jones stalling.

Patton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Patton keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Karl Patton is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Patton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.
Patton moves out of range as Jones throws a body kick.

Jones drives through and clinches with Patton against the cage.
Jones tries for a takedown but Patton manages to get underhooks.
Jones tries to pull guard but Patton holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.

Jones wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Patton dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Patton as Jones shoots in.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Jones misses with a body punch.
Jones tries to pull guard but Patton forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Jones has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Patton clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Patton looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patton breaks Jones's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Patton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Patton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.
Patton won't allow Jones to sweep him here.
Patton is looking to stand up but Jones won't let him.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Patton from controlling successfully.
Karl Patton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Patton gets to his feet - Jones follows without any prompting.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones misses with some punches.
A bit of stalling here from Jones.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Jones as Patton tries to tie him up.

Patton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jones misses with a head kick.
Patton seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Patton tries to clinch up.
Jones missing with a left hand there. Patton was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Patton.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Patton moves out of range easily.

Patton gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones won't allow Patton to sweep him here.
Jones working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Patton's head.
Jones is looking to stand up but Patton won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Patton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Patton has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.
Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Patton has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jones has passed into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Patton's face as Jones controls the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Stachu Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
