PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rory Marks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Borris Brute (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rory Marks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Borris Brute!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brute misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Brute closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brute lands in his opponent's guard.
Brute pushes down on Marks's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Marks is not content to let Brute control the position.
Brute thows a huge punch but Marks dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brute stalling.
Marks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brute on the ground.
Brute not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brute sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Marks defending well though.
Marks is looking to escape.
Marks is refusing to be controlled, as Brute sits in half guard.
Marks could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Brute not doing much here.
Brute is trying to control the action in half guard but Marks is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brute shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Brute has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Brute tries to stand but can't do so whilst Marks controls his leg.
Brute seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marks does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Brute content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Brute is working for a kimura but Marks is defending it quite comfortably.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brute takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Brute looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marks is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Marks striking from half guard on the bottom.
Brute throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Brute missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Brute keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Brute wants to take a breather but Marks is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marks checks the leg kick nicely there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brute fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Marks is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Brute.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Borris Brute dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Brute tries to clinch up.
Marks appears to be looking for a big counter.
Brute swings for the body but Marks moves out of range.
Marks moves in looking to clinch but Brute pushes him off.
Brute fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Marks avoids a kick to the body.
Brute throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marks's waist but Marks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brute off to one side.
A little feinted left hand from Marks on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Brute looks for a takedown but Marks sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marks showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Brute.
Brute tries to clinch up but Marks circles away and keeps his distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brute shoots for a double leg takedown but Marks sprawls well. He's pushed Brute's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rory Marks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Borris Brute.
Brute is looking to clinch.
Brute tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marks was well out of range. Poor timing from Brute.

Marks clinches up against the cage.
Marks tries to break free but Brute pushes him back against the cage.
Brute lands a left hand that snaps the head of Marks backwards.

Marks pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Marks tries to close the distance and clinch but Brute swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brute darts in looking for a takedown but Marks gets double underhooks and turns Brute into the cage.
Brute tries to close the distance and clinch but Marks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Marks moves into the clinch successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brute is trying to pull guard but Marks turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Marks tries to score a body lock takedown but Brute shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Marks fails to pull guard.

Brute drags the fight down to the ground.
Marks stopping the sweep attempt from Brute.
Marks wants to get up but he can't break Brute's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Marks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Brute seems keen to control Marks's posture.
Brute wants to sweep but no luck.
Brute has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Brute has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Marks doesn't defend quickly enough and Brute has managed to lock this one up! Can Marks escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Brute on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Borris Brute!
