Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Jackhandler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Archie Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen I Have a Dream as his entrance music. Archie Nelson is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Jackhandler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Archie Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Jackhandler as Nelson shoots in.
Jackhandler changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Nelson dives in and grabs Jackhandler's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jackhandler pushes down on Nelson's head and hops out.
Jackhandler appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Nelson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jackhandler manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Nelson has Jackhandler up against the cage in a clinch.

Jackhandler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Nelson tries to clinch but Jackhandler moves out of range.
Nelson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jackhandler defends well and Nelson ends up having to push Jackhandler into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Jackhandler tries to counter with a takedown but Nelson is quick to defend against it.
John Jackhandler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Archie Nelson.

Nelson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nelson gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Jackhandler breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nelson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackhandler's waist but Jackhandler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nelson off to one side.
Jackhandler cracks a nice hook into Nelson's ribs.
Jackhandler stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jackhandler wants it to stay on the feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch but Jackhandler swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jackhandler drops down looking for a counter takedown but Nelson sprawls and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nelson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Nelson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Nelson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jackhandler strikes from the bottom but Nelson uses the opportunity to move to side control.

Nelson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jackhandler to his feet.

Nelson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jackhandler!
We've been hearing good reports from Jackhandler's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Nelson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jackhandler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nelson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jackhandler sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Nelson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson throwing strikes here but Jackhandler is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Nelson throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Jackhandler has his hands clasped together but Nelson breaks the hold and Jackhandler is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Nelson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Archie Nelson!
