Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Faala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Faala drives through with a takedown into Hughes's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Hughes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Faala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hughes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hughes is pulling down on Faala's head. It's preventing any offense from Faala, at least for the moment.
Faala wants to get up but he can't break Hughes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hughes is looking for a triangle but Faala pushes his legs off easily.

Hughes has his foot on Faala's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Faala works his way back into a safe position though.
Faala is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hughes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Faala wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Faala fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hughes sprawls well initially but Faala persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hughes tries to roll over but Faala keeps him under control.
Faala seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hughes is controlling Faala's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Hughes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Faala defends it easily.
Faala would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Faala wants the takedown. Hughes is fighting it off but Faala persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hughes's guard against the cage.

Faala stands up from Hughes's guard - Faala perhaps looking for a knockout.
Faala throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily.
Hughes is looking for a counter combo.

Faala misses the shot to the body.
Hughes appears to be looking for a big counter.

Faala has managed to clinch.
Faala tries to land a knee to the head but Hughes blocks with his arms.
Faala is trying to push Hughes away but Hughes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Faala ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Faala no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Faala is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Michael Faala dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Hughes shoots in looking for a takedown. Faala tries to sprawl out of it but Hughes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Faala manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Faala gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hughes.
Faala is pressed up against the cage. Hughes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Faala down to the mat. Faala avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Hughes throws a head kick but Faala moves out of range.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Faala as he avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Faala lands a nice shot to the body.

Faala shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hughes's guard.

Faala is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Faala decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Faala lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hughes has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hughes and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Faala shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Faala showed some decent athleticism there.
Faala content to control rather than advance.

Michael Faala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Faala has managed to clinch.
Hughes tries to pull guard but Faala holds him up against the cage and eventually Hughes drops back down to his feet.

Faala pulls Hughes in close to prevent any damage.

Hughes maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Faala could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hughes has cracked it and Faala is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hughes!
