PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Man Ip (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rabihia Nahas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ip comes to the cage accompanied by Reflections - Vain words from empty minds. Rabihia Nahas told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Man Ip!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rabihia Nahas!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nahas gets the takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Ip throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Ip is looking to regain half guard here but Nahas keeps moving and retains side control.
Ip bucks up and tries to throw Nahas off but instead Nahas has got his back!
Ip is really stuck here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ip's corner are yelling at him, telling him to just focus on controlling Nahas's hands.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nahas gets his hands free as Ip looks to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Even with his hooks in, Nahas manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Ip has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Nahas.
Nahas somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Ip is trying to get back to his feet but Nahas has full control of the position and if anything, Ip has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Ip is trying to break free.
Nahas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Nahas has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ip's body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ip just trying to survive but Nahas is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nahas controls the action.
Ip manages to reverse the position and now he's in Nahas's guard. Nice work there by Ip.
Ip wants to stand but Nahas is controlling his posture from full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nahas can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ip is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nahas will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Nahas looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ip is one step ahead there.
Ip trying to control but Nahas is working from the bottom.
Nahas trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Nahas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ip wants to control from the top but Nahas keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nahas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ip tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ip misses with a takedown attempt

and Nahas counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Nahas.

Nahas decides to pull guard.
Nahas has Ip pulled in close to control his posture.

Nahas has an active guard here but Ip has managed to pass into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nahas works his way to full guard. Good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rabihia Nahas dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Nahas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Nahas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nahas showed some decent athleticism there.
Ip gets full guard.
Nahas controlling from the top position.

Nahas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ip is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nahas is aware though and is defending well.
Nahas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ip. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ip looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nahas sitting in guard here, content to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Nahas shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ip is trying to defend but Nahas finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Nahas not doing much here.

Ip pushes Nahas off looking to stand but Nahas dives back in and keeps control.
Nahas missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Nahas wants to pass the guard but Ip is defending well.
Nahas takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ip misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Nahas wants to stand up but Ip manages to regain full guard.
Ip bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nahas's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ip's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Ip wants to stand but Nahas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Nahas controlling Ip's posture.

Nahas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ip defends it easily.

Nahas manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nahas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nahas looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Nahas moves into range and clinches up with Ip.

Nahas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Ip scores with a knee to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ip tries for a takedown but Nahas manages to get underhooks.
Nahas tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Ip's elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rabihia Nahas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Nahas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ip's guard.
Ip being controlled here, momentarily.
Ip looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Nahas puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Nahas misses with a head shot. Ip uses the momentum to regain guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nahas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ip is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ip utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Nahas connects with a couple of short punches.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ip blocks a head kick by Nahas.
Nahas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ip wants to clinch.
Nahas appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Nahas swats away the attempt to clinch by Ip.
Ip tries to clinch there but Nahas circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Ip. No joy for Nahas on that attempt.

Ip tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nahas swivels and escapes.
Despite the aggression on Nahas's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Ip is looking to clinch but Nahas is avoiding it.

Nahas gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Nahas blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Ip is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Nahas is defending well.

Nahas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nahas.
Ip might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nahas happy to just control the position for now.

Nahas is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ip is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ip wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Ip is trying to control Nahas's posture but Nahas avoids it.
Ip seems a little lost for a moment, as Nahas dominates the positioning.

Man Ip has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rabihia Nahas is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Nahas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Rabihia Nahas tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
