PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richard Farmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Richard Farmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Evans!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farmer fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Farmer tries to clinch but Evans is having none of it.
Evans displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Farmer.
Evans throws a head kick that misses.

Evans shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Farmer manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Evans is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Evans postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Evans has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Farmer is proving hard to escape from.
Evans controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Farmer is pulling down on Evans's head to control his posture.
Evans won't allow Farmer to get back to his feet.
Evans must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Evans is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Farmer takes the fight into the clinch.

Evans gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Farmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Evans stalling.
Evans throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Farmer to regain full guard.
Evans loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Evans throws a strike but Farmer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Farmer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Farmer trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom.
Farmer won't allow Evans to get back to his feet.
Evans keeping moving, preventing Farmer from controlling successfully.
Evans wants to stand but Farmer is controlling the position.
Farmer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Evans has control of Farmer's left arm, preventing Farmer from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Farmer wants to clinch
and Evans counters with a straight right hand.
Evans pulls out of a head kick attempt.
James Evans seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Evans lands a body shot.

Evans decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Evans sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Farmer defending well though.

Evans stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Farmer to get to his feet.

Evans moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Evans has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Farmer is trying to keep an underhook but Evans manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Evans looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Farmer is looking to stand up but Evans isn't so interested in that idea.

Evans stands up from Farmer's guard - Evans perhaps looking for a knockout.
Evans circles away from the clinch attempt.
Farmer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Evans swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Evans is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Farmer is trying hard to land a takedown here. Evans sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Farmer gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Evans breaks from the clinch.

Farmer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Farmer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Evans is controlling him.

Evans wants to stand and escape but instead Farmer has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Evans has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Evans pushes Farmer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Evans is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Farmer's half guard.

Evans slows the pace down in half guard.

Evans is looking for a kimura here.

Evans looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Evans keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Farmer is defending against the submission attempts here by Evans.
Evans looks to land a strike but Farmer avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Evans showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Evans has closed the distance and engaged Farmer in a clinch.

Evans breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice body punch from Evans.
Evans swinging wildly here.
Farmer shoots for a takedown but Evans saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Farmer goes for a double leg but Evans avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Evans continues to drive forward.
Evans lunges at Farmer with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Farmer's hand.


Farmer is rocked!
Evans stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard Farmer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head kick by Evans - that's a beauty! Farmer is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Evans can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
