Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Beats (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russell Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson has chosen "Still Unbroken" by Lynyrd Skynyrd as his entrance music. Beats has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Russell Patterson enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russell Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beats throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Patterson.
Patterson looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Beats tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Patterson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Patterson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Patterson keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Beats tries to clinch there but Patterson circles away.
Patterson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Beats is fending him off so far but Patterson persists. Nope, Beats circles away and we're back to standing.
Beats fails to land the takedown.
Beats displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Patterson throws out the jab.
Beats tries a head kick but it misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Patterson.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patterson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Patterson wants it to stay on the feet.
Beats drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Patterson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Beats is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Patterson changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Beats fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Patterson takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Beats shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Patterson pinned against the cage. Patterson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Beats sets himself, and Patterson steps forward looking for the clinch! Beats avoids it this time.
Patterson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Beats gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Beats goes for a takedown in the clinch but Patterson prevents it.
Beats is trying to push Patterson away but Patterson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Beats tries to work over Patterson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Beats misses with a body punch.
Beats wants to get back to striking at distance but Patterson won't allow it.

Patterson turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Patterson manages to end up in side control.
Beats tries to escape but Patterson is in control.

Patterson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Beats is looking to regain half guard here but Patterson keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Beats wants to control but Patterson postures up.

Patterson is trying to get an arm triangle but Beats is defending well.
Beats tries to strike but it doesn't land.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Beats wants to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Beats tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Patterson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beats tries to escape but Patterson is in control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Russell Patterson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Patterson.
Patterson slaps away a takedown attempt from Beats, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Patterson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Beats pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Beats closes the distance and pushes Patterson back into the cage.
Beats leaning against his opponent.

Beats escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Beats shoots in looking for a takedown. Patterson tries to sprawl out of it but Beats keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Patterson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Beats shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Patterson but Patterson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Beats is looking to clinch but Patterson is avoiding it.
Patterson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Beats manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Patterson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Beats is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Beats pushes Patterson off looking to stand but Patterson dives back in and keeps control.

Patterson works his way into side control.

Patterson is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Beats is trying to escape and Patterson transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Beats is forced to tap! Nice work there by Patterson! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Russell Patterson!
Russell Patterson got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
