Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Liu Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikhail Popkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Popkov has chosen Somethin' Bad as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liu Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikhail Popkov!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Popkov swings for the body but Kang moves out of range.
Kang moves in looking to clinch but Popkov pushes him off.
We've been told by Kang's head coaches at Team Alpha Male that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Popkov stuns Kang with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Kang misses with a kick to the body.
Kang throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Popkov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kang doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Kang works Popkov's body with a nice hook.
Popkov sizes up Kang with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Popkov, right into the meat.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Popkov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kang.
Popkov with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kang avoids the head kick by Popkov.
Kang throws a big counter combination but Popkov scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Popkov throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Popkov lands with an overhand left.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kang throws a push kick but Popkov slaps the foot to one side.
Kang is looking to clinch but Popkov is avoiding it.
Popkov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Popkov lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
A looping hook to the body misses from Popkov. Kang does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kang throws a body kick that misses.
A solid leg kick lands there for Popkov.
Kang throws a sloppy body shot
and Popkov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kang's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Kang duly obliges.


It looks like Mikhail Popkov has been cut.
Popkov thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Kang if he has to take too many more of those.
Popkov connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kang. Kang circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Kang misses with a head kick.
Kang tries to close the distance and clinch but Popkov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kang is looking to clinch.
Popkov looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Kang moves out of range of the strikes.
Kang went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
A good leg kick by Popkov.
Kang wants to clinch.
Popkov swats away the attempt to clinch by Kang.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Popkov swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kang.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kang tries to clinch up.
Kang falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kang takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Popkov attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Popkov misses with an attempted mid kick.
Popkov throws a quick inside leg kick.

Popkov lands a big head kick that sends Kang tumbling to the mat! Popkov takes a step backwards and waves Kang back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Kang is rocked!
Kang just misses with a punch to the body.
Popkov looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Oh Kang is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kang moves out of range of the body kick.
Popkov avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kang seems to have got his legs back now.
Kang misses with a left hand
and Popkov counters with a nice leg kick.
Popkov throws an overhand right that drops Kang like a sack of potatoes! Popkov dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mikhail Popkov!
An out of breath Mikhail Popkov thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
