PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Malcolm Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Schneider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitchell kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Joe Jackson- I'm the Man. Schneider is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: What Would David Schneider Do?. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malcolm Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Schneider!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schneider shoots in looking for a takedown but Mitchell manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Schneider's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Good exchange - Mitchell coming out on top.
Schneider throws out a loose jab but Mitchell uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mitchell fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Schneider looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Mitchell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
We've been told by Mitchell's head coaches at AD Sparstars Inc. that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Mitchell feints and then cracks Schneider's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Schneider down.
Mitchell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Schneider on the side of the head.
Schneider connects with a nice looking jab.
Mitchell throws a body punch but Schneider moves out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Mitchell. Those never looked like landing.

Mitchell clinches up with Schneider and pushes him back against the cage.
Schneider managing to block the knees to the body from Mitchell.
Mitchell misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Schneider.
Mitchell looking to throw knees to the head but Schneider is blocking nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mitchell tries to work over Schneider's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mitchell lands a left hand that snaps the head of Schneider backwards.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schneider blocking some punches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Schneider has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Schneider prevents a body shot from Mitchell.
Mitchell missing with knees to the body.
Mitchell landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Mitchell pushes Schneider back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mitchell misses with a hook to the ribs.
A short uppercut from Mitchell.
Mitchell lands an uppercut.
Schneider jumps guard but Mitchell turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Schneider blocks a body shot from Mitchell.
Mitchell goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Mitchell can't find room to land a body shot as Schneider controls the action.
Schneider blocks an elbow strike from Mitchell.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Schneider.
Mitchell struggles to land a body shot inside as Schneider controls his hands.
Schneider jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mitchell walks away with a smile on his face. Schneider gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Malcolm Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Schneider.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Schneider takes one to the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mitchell throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Schneider closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Schneider not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Schneider is pressing down on Mitchell's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mitchell is holding on for now.
Mitchell is trying to maintain the position but Schneider is very close to passing his half guard.

Schneider is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mitchell defends it well.
Schneider has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell is in all sorts of trouble here.
Mitchell avoids a series of strikes thrown by Schneider.

Schneider thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Schneider lands a couple of good shots and Mitchell has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Schneider has Mitchell flattened out and is raining down punches.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Schneider.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Schneider is striking well from the back but Mitchell escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.

Schneider is working for a kimura but Mitchell is defending it quite comfortably.

Schneider in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mitchell tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Schneider!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). David Schneider!
In his post fight interview, David Schneider started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Malcolm Mitchell spoke after the fight, saying 'mutha- &÷&>!!!@#±$&%¥£!!!!!!'.
