The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cortez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Laakkonen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Cortez is in Laakkonen's guard.
Cortez won't allow Laakkonen to get back to his feet.
Laakkonen keeping moving, preventing Cortez from controlling successfully.
Laakkonen wants to stand up but Cortez is controlling him.
Cortez passes into half guard.

Cortez wants to work for an arm triangle but Laakkonen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cortez trying to control the action but Laakkonen is working from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
