The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paterno looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Paterno is defended easily by Michaels.
Michaels tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Paterno shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Michaels but Michaels pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Matthew Michaels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Massimo Paterno.
Michaels buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Massimo Paterno seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Paterno shoots in looking for a takedown. Michaels tries to sprawl out of it but Paterno keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Michaels manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Michaels is trying to maintain the position but Paterno is very close to passing his half guard.
Paterno thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Michaels's head.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Paterno in particular looking to stall.
