PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Drake Kartella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kartella comes to the cage accompanied by Real G's. Drake Kartella has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Drake Kartella!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonathan Jacobs!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Francis DeMontford and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kartella moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
A jab from Kartella does it's job there.
Kartella throws an off balance right hand

and Jacobs counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jacobs trying to control the position from guard on top but Kartella is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jacobs drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kartella manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jacobs has Kartella in his guard.

Jacobs wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kartella is now in half guard.

Jacobs can't escape the position.
Jacobs is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jacobs is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Kartella is staying active.

Kartella lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Kartella showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jacobs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jacobs uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kartella.

Kartella gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jacobs to score an easy takedown into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Drake Kartella will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Jacobs wants to control from the top but Kartella keeps moving.
Jacobs pushes down on Kartella's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jacobs is working for a kimura but Kartella is defending it quite comfortably.

Jacobs wants to work for an arm triangle but Kartella is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jacobs wants to free his trapped foot but Kartella is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Jacobs seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kartella does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kartella is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jacobs wants to pass the guard but Kartella is defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jacobs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kartella tries to avoid it but Jacobs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kartella to the ground. Kartella escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kartella half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Jacobs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Nice uppercut there from Kartella.
Jacobs is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kartella throws out a powerful jab.
Jacobs looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Kartella lands a right hook to the body.
Kartella cracks Jacobs with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

and Jacobs counters with a shoot takedown. Kartella fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jacobs drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kartella dives on top into guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kartella is trying to control the action in half guard but Jacobs is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kartella wants to get up but he can't break Jacobs's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Jacobs throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kartella slaps away a takedown attempt from Jacobs, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kartella jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kartella uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jacobs has time to react.

Kartella works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Jacobs takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kartella connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Kartella leaves Jacobs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Drake Kartella has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Jacobs.

Kartella looks to throw the jab but Jacobs is out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kartella fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jacobs looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kartella scores with a hook to the body. Jacobs takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Kartella misses with a wild combination.
Kartella tests Jacobs's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Jacobs gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Kartella is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jacobs can do to turn this around?
Jacobs takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Drake Kartella is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kartella lands with a right hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Drake Kartella showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kartella has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
