Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chester Tate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Elliot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Greg Elliot has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Chester Tate's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chester Tate!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Elliot!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Elliot fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tate to the ground. Elliot is now in Tate's guard.
Tate is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Tate is looking for a kimura but Elliot is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tate to get the leverage.
Elliot is trying to stand up here but Tate is controlling him well.
Elliot is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Tate keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Tate is taking a breather. Elliot says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Elliot scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Tate manages to mount him!
Tate could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tate is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Elliot can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Elliot really wants to buck Tate off and get back to his feet.

Tate postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Elliot looks a forlorn figure.

Tate is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Elliot is surviving well by controlling Tate's body position as best he can.

Tate jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Elliot manages to avoid the submission attempt.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Tate seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Elliot for as long as he can get away with.

Elliot takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Elliot pushes Tate away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tate gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Tate decides to stand back up. Tate steps back and let's Elliot get back to his feet.

Tate drops down looking for an ankle pick but Elliot pulls his leg out and moves away.

Elliot's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Tate is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Tate stops Elliot from standing up.
Tate might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Elliot wants to stand and escape but Tate is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tate shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Elliot as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chester Tate. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Elliot has managed to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tate uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Elliot has time to react.
A telegraphed right hand from Tate misses the target.

Elliot has closed the distance and engaged Tate in a clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Elliot gets through Tate's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Elliot pushes Tate back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Greg Elliot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Elliot throws a jab when Tate was well out of range.

Elliot fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tate, pushing him back against the cage.

Tate drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Tate looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Elliot with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Tate takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Elliot tries to kick Tate off but Tate keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tate is nestled in close to Elliot, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tate in particular looking to stall.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Well, if Tate is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Elliot has taken the fight to the clinch.
Elliot tries to break free but Tate pushes him back against the cage.

Tate tries to pull guard but Elliot holds him up against the cage and eventually Tate drops back down to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Elliot rushes Tate and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Elliot is fighting off a takedown attempt but Tate is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Elliot to the mat. Elliot regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Elliot can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tate controls the pace.
Tate has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Elliot accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Elliot has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tate is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
