PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simoto Kusaiko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Ortiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Simoto Kusaiko!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kusaiko throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ortiz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kusaiko avoids it really well and circles away.
Kusaiko goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ortiz goes for a double leg but Kusaiko avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kusaiko continues to drive forward.
Kusaiko is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Ortiz is keeping busy.

Ortiz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ortiz instigates a clinch.

Ortiz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ortiz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Kusaiko counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Ortiz is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Kusaiko has managed to clinch.

Ortiz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kusaiko keeps the fight on the outside.
Kusaiko lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kusaiko but Kusaiko pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Ortiz rushes Kusaiko and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kusaiko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kusaiko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kusaiko wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ortiz manages to pass to side control.

Ortiz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kusaiko has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kusaiko is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ortiz scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ortiz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Kusaiko avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ortiz.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kusaiko pushes Ortiz off looking to stand but Ortiz dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Ortiz dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ortiz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kusaiko as he jumps to the side.
Kusaiko tries a head kick but it misses.
Kusaiko leaves Ortiz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ortiz shoots in for a double leg but Kusaiko sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Ortiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kusaiko throws a head kick that Ortiz semi-blocks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kusaiko tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Ortiz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kusaiko wants to slow Ortiz down by chopping away at his legs.

Kusaiko misses with an elbow over the top.
Kusaiko gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ortiz.
Kusaiko prevents a body shot from Ortiz.

Ortiz pulls guard.
Ortiz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Ortiz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kusaiko manages to get himself to full guard.

Ortiz stands up over Kusaiko, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortiz throws a big elbow that misses.
Ortiz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kusaiko is looking to stand up but Ortiz isn't so interested in that idea.
Ortiz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kusaiko can do to turn this around?

Ortiz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kusaiko is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kusaiko has escaped and now he's on top!

Kusaiko is fighting to break Ortiz's control of his arms but Ortiz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Ortiz has a closed guard, preventing Kusaiko from standing up.
Ortiz is pulling down on Kusaiko's head to control his posture.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kusaiko wants to get up but he can't break Ortiz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Ortiz controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Ortiz wants to clinch up but Kusaiko keeps it at a distance.
Simoto Kusaiko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ortiz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kusaiko counters with a body kick.
Ortiz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ortiz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kusaiko avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simoto Kusaiko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ortiz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Both fighters circling a little - Kusaiko finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Kusaiko lands a head kick!
Kusaiko throws a head kick that misses.
Kusaiko throws a head kick but Ortiz moves out of range.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ortiz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Ortiz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kusaiko is avoiding damage well.
Kusaiko is not content to let Ortiz control the position.

Joe Ortiz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ortiz cracks Kusaiko with a big right hand but Kusaiko just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Ortiz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Kusaiko wants to get back to his feet.
Ortiz in side control, throwing shots but Kusaiko defends.
Ortiz throws a strike aimed at the side of Kusaiko's head but Kusaiko avoids it well.

Kusaiko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortiz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ortiz cracks Kusaiko with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Ortiz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kusaiko is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Kusaiko managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ortiz.

Kusaiko avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ortiz.
Ortiz is chipping away with strikes.

Ortiz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ortiz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ortiz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kusaiko has escaped the position, nice work there.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Ortiz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
