Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nathanael Lowery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Viet Tran!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tran throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lowery was covering up waiting for the punch and Tran finishes the takedown easily into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lowery is on top in guard.

Lowery with a flurry of punches that miss.

Tran working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lowery doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lowery manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Tran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tran is trying to keep Lowery in close.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tran being controlled here, momentarily.

Tran working for a triangle but Lowery defends it easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tran can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Tran working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lowery doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lowery manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Lowery wants to get up but he can't break Tran's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Lowery engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Tran looking for a guillotine here but Lowery defends easily.
Lowery seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Tran throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lowery wants to stand but Tran is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Tran feints and as Lowery raises his hands in defense, Tran changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tran looks winded!
Lowery lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Lowery drops back looking for a leg! Tran is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tran manages to kick Lowery off! Lowery jumps back into Tran's guard.
Lowery stays in close to Tran's body and controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Tran looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Tran has his foot on Lowery's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lowery works his way back into a safe position though.
Lowery sitting in guard here, content to control.
Lowery is in close to Tran's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Lowery wants to stand but Tran has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Lowery's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Lowery trying to stand up but can't free himself from Tran's guard.
Lowery engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Lowery stands up from Tran's guard - Lowery perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Tran shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lowery controls Tran momentarily but Tran frees himself.
Lowery tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Tran throws a sloppy strike and Lowery has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Tran is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Lowery!
