PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Harrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harrison comes into the arena with Ocean Colour Scene - Hundred Mile High City blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Thiago Sanchez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Harrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 26 - 0, fighting out of London, Thiago Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harrison moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Sanchez misses with a wild body shot.
Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Harrison pinned against the cage. Harrison gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sanchez looks for a takedown but Harrison sprawls well.
Sanchez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sanchez there as he acknowledges the shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sanchez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Harrison avoids it really well and circles away.
A jab from Harrison misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sanchez is defended easily by Harrison.
Sanchez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Harrison defends well and Sanchez ends up having to push Harrison into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Harrison sprawls well. Harrison wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet.
Sanchez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sanchez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Harrison thuds his right hand into Sanchez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Sanchez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Harrison walks away with a smile on his face. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sanchez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harrison sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sanchez somewhat.
Harrison throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sanchez shoots for a takedown but Harrison saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sanchez shoots in looking for a takedown. Harrison tries to sprawl out of it but Sanchez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Harrison manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sanchez misses with a wild combination.

Harrison lands a jab.
Thiago Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sanchez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Harrison digs a good body shot into Sanchez's ribs.
Harrison moves away from the strike by Sanchez.
Sanchez takes one on the chin but seems OK.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nice takedown defense from Harrison. No joy for Sanchez on that attempt.

Sanchez shoots in but no luck this time.
Harrison slaps away a takedown attempt from Sanchez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sanchez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Harrison catches Sanchez with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Harrison fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sanchez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Good exchange - Harrison coming out on top.
Harrison lands the left hand.
Harrison scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Harrison leaves Sanchez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Sanchez takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


Sanchez is rocked!
Harrison dances in with a quick combination. Sanchez is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Harrison snaps Sanchez's head back. Sanchez stumbles backwards against the cage. Harrison steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Sanchez's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Sanchez just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Simon Harrison!
During a confident post fight interview, Simon Harrison thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
