PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Nevsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Champ Bombada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 21 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Nevsky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 33 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Champ Bombada!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bombada fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Nevsky has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Bombada throws a right and a left that Nevsky avoids nicely.
Bombada lands a front kick.
Bombada uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nevsky.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Nevsky crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Bombada - the referee stops the clock and Nevsky gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Bombada. Nevsky manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Nevsky shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bombada but Bombada pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nevsky throws out a loose jab but Bombada uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bombada stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bombada wants it to stay on the feet.
Nevsky throws a big shot that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nevsky shoots in but Bombada avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Nevsky. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bombada lands a jab-cross combination.
Nevsky looks for a takedown but Bombada sprawls well.

Bombada scores with a hook.
Bombada will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bombada lands a right hook to the body.
Nevsky shoots in looking for a takedown. Bombada tries to sprawl out of it but Nevsky keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bombada manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nevsky walks into a stiff left hand from Bombada.
Nevsky takes one to the side of the head.
Bombada lands a leg kick that knocks Nevsky off balance momentarily.

Bombada jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Bombada jabs Nevsky right on the nose. Nevsky blinks but takes it well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nevsky takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Bombada defending well as Nevsky loads up on a big left hand.
Champ Bombada is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A jab lands there for Bombada.
Bombada keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Nevsky darts in looking for a takedown but Bombada gets double underhooks and turns Nevsky into the cage.

Bombada pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nevsky shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bombada defends it nicely.
Bombada stuffs the takedown attempt from Nevsky. Nevsky gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bombada fails to land with a series of punches.
Nevsky avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bombada catches Nevsky with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Nevsky rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bombada counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Nevsky gets a double leg takedown into Bombada's guard.
Nevsky working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bombada wants to get back to his feet but Nevsky is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Nevsky keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bombada's head.
Nevsky has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Nevsky loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've been hearing good reports from Nevsky's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Bombada utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Bombada told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Nevsky stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bombada swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nevsky throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bombada works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Nevsky throws a big elbow that misses.
Nevsky trying to control the position from guard on top but Bombada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Bombada fails to land with a series of punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Champ Bombada dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nevsky's jab looks to have found its range, popping Bombada under the eye.
Bombada connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Bombada throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Bombada darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nevsky throws the left hand but Bombada avoids the punch easily.
Bombada displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nevsky throws out the jab.
Bombada throws a series of punches but Nevsky moves out of range.
Alexander Nevsky seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bombada blocks a head kick by Nevsky.

Nevsky changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bombada tries to avoid it but Nevsky manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bombada to the ground. Bombada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nevsky misses with a double jab.
Champ Bombada seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A left lands for Bombada.
Bombada displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nevsky.
Nevsky misses with a hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
No luck for Nevsky with that takedown attempt.
Bombada stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Bombada lands a head kick!
Nevsky loads up on a big right hand but Bombada slips the punch.

Nevsky tests Bombada's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Bombada gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Nevsky.
Bombada avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nevsky fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nevsky fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Nevsky is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nevsky takes one on the button.
Nevsky moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Bombada leaves Nevsky with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The crowd cheers as Bombada lands an impressive looking overhand right. Nevsky doesn't seem phased though.
Bombada throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nevsky.
Nevsky tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bombada sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nevsky somewhat.
Nevsky fails with a takedown attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nevsky ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bombada moves away.
Bombada lands a really nice looking cross but Nevsky seems unphased.
Nevsky is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bombada sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bombada works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Champ Bombada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Nevsky tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Oh Nevsky is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Nevsky bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bombada feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Nevsky crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Champ Bombada!
In his post fight interview, Champ Bombada started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Alexander Nevsky had this to say: 'Well ... what can I say ... my opponent was better than me tonight and congratulations for him! But I will come back strong and better prepared next time and put on a show for you guys !!!!'.
