Kartella comes into the arena with Real G's blaring out of the sound system. Drake Kartella could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Sergio Pettis's chin.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Drake Kartella!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sergio Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis shoots for a takedown but Kartella saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pettis looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Horrible takedown attempt by Pettis or perhaps it was just good defense by Kartella, which made it look bad.
Pettis shoots in looking for a takedown. Kartella tries to sprawl out of it but Pettis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kartella manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Drake Kartella has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergio Pettis.
Pettis looks for a takedown but Kartella sprawls well.
Kartella scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kartella fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Pettis on the side of the head.
Pettis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kartella.
A jab from Kartella misses.
Pettis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pettis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kartella looks to throw the jab but Pettis is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kartella scores with a one two! Pettis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Kartella swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pettis looks for a takedown but Kartella sprawls well.
Pettis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kartella.
Kartella throws a shot from downtown. Pettis moves away and avoids it.

A lazy left from Kartella finds it's target.
Kartella swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Pettis throws a one two combo.
Kartella throws a hook to the side of Pettis's head but Pettis sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Drake Kartella is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pettis staying out of range there.

Pettis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kartella sprawls well initially but Pettis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pettis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Pettis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Pettis prevents Kartella from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pettis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pettis wants to free his trapped foot but Kartella is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kartella makes his way to full guard, as Pettis worked for a kimura.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pettis has gone for a leg lock! Kartella slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pettis's guard.


Kartella got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pettis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kartella has managed to get both his arms back between Pettis's legs - danger averted.
Pettis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've been hearing that Kartella has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Pettis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kartella has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pettis has an active guard here but Kartella has managed to pass into half guard.
Pettis is looking for a sweep. Kartella is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kartella is looking to take a break and control but Pettis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pettis trying to control but Kartella postures up.

Pettis is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Kartella is tapping! Great win for Pettis!

A victorious Sergio Pettis thanked his army of followers in his post fight interview, telling people to make sure they follow him on Twitter.
In defeat, Drake Kartella stepped up to the mic, saying 'Sergio and I trained long and hard for this fight. We have spend countless hours figuring out what we need to do to beat each other. I just came up short. I want a rematch. I want to win back my title and bring it home. But until then, I'm going to rest and recover, go home and spend time with my w'.
