PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Gold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Asher Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gold might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Goldust theme. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jamie Gold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 40 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Asher Lee!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gold uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lee.
Lee misses the jab.
Lee connects with a nice looking jab.
Lee throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gold sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gold slips a jab from Lee.
Lee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gold was well out of range. Poor timing from Lee.
Lee throws an off balance right hand
and Gold counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gold has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gold there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gold looks to land a right hand but Lee moved out of range.
Lee ducks under a wild hook from Gold.
Gold throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Lee throws a jab when Gold was well out of range.
Gold looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Lee connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Gold throws a right hand that misses
and Lee counters with a three punch combo that has Gold backing up. Gold nods at Lee to acknowledge the strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gold throws a hook but Lee blocks it.
Lee thows a left - swing and a miss!
A jab from Lee finds it's way through Gold's defenses.

Asher Lee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Gold counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lee thinking.

Lee throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gold sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gold thuds a left hand into Lee's body.
Gold displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lee throws out the jab.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Lee, as that shot connected.
Gold throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gold throws a shot from downtown. Lee moves away and avoids it.

Lee throws a shot to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gold keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lee.
Lee throws out a loose jab but Gold uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lee lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee slips a jab from Gold.
Gold shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Gold manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lee on his heels. He'll look to pass Lee's guard now, I'm sure.

Lee has his hands on Gold's head, controlling the position.
Gold throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Lee ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gold throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A jab from Lee does it's job there.
Lee might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gold moves out of range of the body kick from Lee.
Gold throws a hook but Lee blocks it.
Gold avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Asher Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Lee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gold was well out of range. Poor timing from Lee.
Lee dodges the punch combination from Gold.
Lee cracks Gold with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Gold walks into a straight right hand from Lee.
Gold swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gold takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gold tries a head kick but it misses.
Gold takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gold blocks a jab.
Lee takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Gold fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lee defending well as Gold loads up on a big left hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Asher Lee dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Lee throws a low kick but Gold avoids it.
A telegraphed right hand from Gold misses the target.
Lee clobbers Gold with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Lee lands a jab-cross combination.
Lee throws a good cross that connects.
Lee uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gold.
Gold lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Gold swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Lee lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Lee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gold wants to clinch.
A head kick misses from Gold.
A swing and a miss from Lee.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gold closes the distance and pushes Lee back into the cage.
Lee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lee blocks an uppercut.
Gold lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Lee prevents a body shot from Gold.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gold.

Lee tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Lee is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Gold lands a hook that snaps the head of Lee backwards.

Lee trying to control the position but instead, Gold has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lee into the cage.

Gold has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Lee regains guard immediately.
Gold looking to sit in guard and control but Lee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

My spies in The Warehouse inform me that Lee has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Lee tries to stand but Gold is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gold pulls Lee in close to prevent any damage.
Gold bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lee's guard.

Lee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lee wants to improve his position but instead Gold has moved into half guard.
Lee regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gold.
Lee keeping moving, preventing Gold from controlling successfully.
Lee wants to sweep here but Gold controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gold is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Lee looking for a sweep. Not yet Lee, not yet.
Gold throws a big right hand that misses.
Gold controls from within his opponent's guard.

Gold has gone for a leg lock! Lee slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gold's guard.


Gold is looking for a triangle but Lee pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jamie Gold will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Gold lets loose with a powerful body kick. Lee will feel that in the morning.
Gold misses with a few strikes there.
Gold moves out of range of the strikes.
Gold pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Lee misses with a wild body shot.
Gold closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lee circles away.
Lee throws a shot to the body.
Lee lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
A head kick misses from Gold.
Jab from Lee.
Gold scores with a head kick.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Gold. Gold gets slowly back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lee looks to land a right hand but Gold moved out of range.
The fighters circling - Gold throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Lee tries to keep at a distance but Gold has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gold lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee misses with some punches.
Gold looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Gold drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lee pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamie Gold. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gold gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Lee cracks a nice hook into Gold's ribs.

Gold looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Lee!
You can see the frustration on Lee's face as Gold controls the position.
Lee tries to buck Gold off but Gold is having none of it.
Gold advances to mount.
Gold avoids the attempt from Lee to control.

Gold lands a heavy elbow.
Gold punching from mount but Lee doing a good job of avoiding damage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lee is squirming around, avoiding Gold's attempts to control the action.

Gold working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Lee tries to reverse the position but Gold maintains control.

Gold prevents Lee from getting the reversal.
Gold controlling the pace for now.
Lee is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee gets back to half guard.

Gold is looking for a kimura but Lee is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gold to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lee is defending against the submission attempts here by Gold.
Gold controlling the action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jamie Gold showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Gold has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
