PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Matenga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Chavarria (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chavarria has chosen tom sawyer as his entrance music. Marco Chavarria will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matenga tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Chavarria manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Chavarria throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Matenga counters with a nice kick to the body.

Chavarria tries to sprawl but Matenga drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Matenga is looking for a kimura but Chavarria is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Matenga to get the leverage.
Matenga is taking a breather. Chavarria says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chavarria wants to stand back up but Matenga manages to pass into side control.
Chavarria looks winded!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Matenga content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Matenga is trying to get an arm triangle but Chavarria is defending well.
Matenga tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Matenga stands up and we're back to a striking position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Chavarria shoots in and gets a takedown into Matenga's guard.
Matenga is pulling down on Chavarria's head to control his posture.

Chavarria gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Chavarria closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Matenga did well to prevent Chavarria getting side control.
Matenga makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Matenga.

Matenga pulls Chavarria in to control the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Matenga is on top in guard.

Chavarria really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Matenga. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Matenga seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Matenga stands up and waves to Chavarria to follow him.

Matenga drives through with a takedown into Chavarria's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Matenga decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chavarria, up you get!

Matenga has his feet on Chavarria's thighs here. He's pushed Chavarria off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Chavarria screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
