Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Minh Mays (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marten Karjus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Minh Mays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marten Karjus!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mays gets caught flat footed, as Karjus shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Karjus trying to control the position from guard on top but Mays is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mays wants to control but Karjus passes easily into half guard.
Karjus working Mays over with strikes.
Mays tries to get to full guard but Karjus has control of the leg.
Karjus has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mays looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mays is staying active underneath Karjus, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mays looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mays misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Karjus wants to control the pace but Mays is squirming around nicely.
Mays sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Mays tries to roll over but Karjus keeps him under control.

Mays really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mays has hold of Karjus's hands but Karjus slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Karjus is keen to just control but Mays is a slippery customer.
Karjus wants to free his trapped foot but Mays is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karjus seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mays tries to roll over but Karjus keeps him under control.
Karjus blocks the strikes from Mays.

Mays tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Karjus has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Karjus looking to control but Mays is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Karjus takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Karjus looking to finish Mays with some ground and pound. This is bad for Mays!
Karjus landing strikes from the mount and Mays is in trouble!
Mays is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mays manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Mays controlling the position well.

Mays regains full guard. Nicely done.
Mays keeping moving, preventing Karjus from controlling successfully.

Mays escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Karjus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Karjus wants to stand but Mays is controlling his posture from full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mays gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Karjus to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Karjus stands and throws Mays's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Marten Karjus has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Mays's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Karjus decides to stand back up. Karjus steps back and let's Mays get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karjus throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mays was covering up waiting for the punch and Karjus finishes the takedown easily into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mays is on top in guard.


Mays decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mays enables Karjus to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mays manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mays uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Mays shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Karjus pinned against the cage. Karjus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Karjus throws a half hearted mid kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Karjus fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mays sprawls well initially but Karjus persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Karjus is breathing heavily.
Karjus wants to pass to mount but Mays is defending the position.
Mays is trying to get back to full guard.

Mays has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Karjus is on him like a limpet, forcing Mays back against the cage.
Karjus has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Karjus jumps guard and drags Mays to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mays throws a big elbow that misses.
Mays working some strikes from top position.
Karjus wants to stand but Mays is controlling the position.
Mays stands up over Karjus, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Mays lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Mays postures up in Karjus's guard and throws a big left but Karjus blocks it.
Mays is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Karjus utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Karjus is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Karjus is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mays dives into side control.

Mays tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mays has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Karjus pushes Mays away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mays gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Minh Mays will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Karjus closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Karjus lands in his opponent's guard.
Karjus trying to control but Mays is working from the bottom.

Mays wants to sweep but no luck.
Mays lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Karjus is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mays connects with a couple of short punches.

Karjus is looking for a triangle here but Mays uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Mays working the ground and pound but Karjus is defending the strikes.
Karjus tries to improve position but can't.
Karjus is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Karjus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Mays gets to mount! Karjus was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Mays is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Karjus can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Karjus is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mays raining down shots from the mount!

Mays wants to finish this one by submission but Karjus is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mays.
Mays lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Karjus wants to control but Mays is having none of it.

Mays looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Mays landing punches.
Karjus is desperately trying to improve his position but Mays has a good base and remains in mount.
Karjus is trying to reverse the position but instead Mays has taken his back - oops!

Mays working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Karjus wants to escape the position.

Mays is persistently looking for the submission but Karjus is defending it well.

Mays has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Karjus has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Minh Mays showed his dominance in that final round.
