Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joel Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wally Portman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joel Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wally Portman!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marquez misses with the combination.

Marquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Portman tries to sprawl out of it but Marquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Portman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Portman throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Marquez throws a head kick that misses.
Marquez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Portman on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Portman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Marquez sprawls well initially but Portman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Portman seems to be working for a kimura but Marquez defends the submission attempt.

Portman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Portman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Marquez defends it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Marquez has control of Portman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Portman regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Marquez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Portman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Marquez has Portman in his guard.

Marquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Portman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Marquez, up you get!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Portman does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and Marquez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Portman's guard.
Portman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Marquez controls the pace.

Marquez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Portman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Marquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Portman blocks a low kick nicely.

Marquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Portman sprawls well. Portman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marquez gets slowly back to his feet.

Portman is looking to regain half guard here but Marquez keeps moving and retains side control.

Portman is working to avoid the ground and pound but Marquez connects with a decent elbow.

Wally Portman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Sloppy strikes from Marquez. Those never looked like landing.
Portman scores with a one two! Marquez had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Portman fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Marquez to the ground. Portman is now in Marquez's guard.
Marquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Portman wants to control from the top but Marquez keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marquez is on top in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
