Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joel Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gaspard Leblong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joel Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gaspard Leblong!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Leblong shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Leblong showed some decent athleticism there.
Marquez holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Marquez gets full guard.
Leblong must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Marquez wants to sweep but no luck.
Leblong wants to stand and escape but instead Marquez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Marquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Marquez stands and steps away. Leblong gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marquez stands and steps away. Leblong gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Leblong tries to land a leg kick but Marquez saw it coming and moves away.
Leblong looks to score with a jab to the body but Marquez is just out of range.

This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Joel Marquez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

and Marquez counters with a shoot takedown. Leblong fights it but they end up in guard.

Marquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Leblong tries to close the distance and clinch but Marquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Leblong is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Leblong tries to clinch there but Marquez circles away.

Leblong feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Marquez is controlling Leblong's posture.

Marquez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leblong can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Gaspard Leblong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Marquez counters with a takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Marquez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Marquez gets control of Leblong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Marquez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Marquez has a closed guard, preventing Leblong from standing up.
Leblong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marquez is on top in guard.
Marquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Marquez lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Marquez is working Leblong over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Marquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Marquez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Leblong defends it well.

Marquez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Leblong sees it coming and defends easily.

Marquez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Leblong is just riding it out for now. Marquez eventually gives up the hold.

Marquez throws a leg kick which misses Leblong's front leg but catches the back leg as Leblong tries to avoid it.

Leblong drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Marquez tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Leblong wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Marquez uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Leblong wants to stand and escape but instead Marquez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Leblong wants to sweep here but Marquez controlling him for the moment.
