PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sean Rodey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerald Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodey comes to the cage accompanied by none. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Rodey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gerald Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lewis clinches up with Rodey and pushes him back against the cage.
Rodey connects with a knee to the head.
Rodey keeps control of Lewis as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Lewis is fighting off a takedown attempt but Rodey is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Lewis to the mat. Lewis regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Lewis has a closed guard, preventing Rodey from standing up.
Rodey with a flurry of punches that miss.

Lewis keeping busy on the bottom but Rodey has passed one foot through into half guard.
Rodey takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Lewis actively working from the bottom here.
Lewis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rodey is working away from the top position though.

Lewis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rodey's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rodey's back!

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Lewis's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Rodey trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Despite being in a bad position, Rodey is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.
Rodey is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rodey looking very determined here, making life difficult for Lewis.
Rodey breaks Lewis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lewis buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Lewis moves away from the strike by Rodey.

Rodey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lewis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rodey is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lewis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rodey is breathing heavily.

Lewis struggling a bit here.
Rodey happy to just control the position for now.
Lewis is looking to reverse the position.
Rodey trying to control the action but Lewis is working from the bottom.

Rodey wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lewis, who protects the arm well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Lewis fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rodey.

Rodey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Lewis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lewis.
Lewis is trying to keep Rodey in close.
Lewis manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rodey manages to get himself to full guard.
Lewis tries to free his leg and advance position but Rodey is retaining full guard.

Rodey scrambles and gets back to his feet.
A head kick lands from Rodey that sends Lewis to the canvas. Lewis tries to scramble back to his feet but Rodey brings him back down into side control.


Lewis is rocked!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rodey takes a little break here. Lewis wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Lewis is still in real trouble! Can Rodey finish him?
Rodey prevents Lewis from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


A combination from Lewis does no damage.
Lewis seems to have recovered his senses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lewis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rodey looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Lewis!
Lewis is in all sorts of trouble here.
Lewis tries to improve his position but instead Rodey has taken his back!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Lewis is trying to get back to his feet but Rodey has full control of the position and if anything, Lewis has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Rodey keeps control of the position as Lewis tries to break free.
Rodey just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Lewis has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Rodey.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rodey throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Rodey controls the position.
Lewis turns into Rodey and is now in his guard.
Rodey looking for a sweep. Not yet Rodey, not yet.
Lewis wants to pass the guard but Rodey is keeping the position.
Lewis is breathing heavily.

Lewis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rodey is proving hard to escape from.
Rodey wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Rodey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lewis manages to get himself to full guard.
Rodey is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Lewis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Rodey holds on for dear life, controlling Lewis's posture momentarily.

Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodey keeps working.
Rodey tries to kick Lewis off but Lewis keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rodey tries to roll over but Lewis keeps him under control.
Rodey tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rodey is trying to stand up here but Lewis is controlling him well.

Lewis is looking for a kimura but Rodey is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lewis to get the leverage.
Rodey tries to get to full guard but Lewis has control of the leg.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rodey scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Rodey throws a head kick that misses.
Sean Rodey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lewis doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rodey counters with a low kick, right behind Lewis 's knee.

Rodey is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rodey won't allow Lewis to sweep him here.

Rodey is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Lewis wants to sweep here but Rodey controlling him for the moment.
Rodey controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Lewis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Lewis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Well, if Rodey is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Lewis wants to control but Rodey is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lewis is in trouble now - Rodey has advanced to mount!
Rodey controlling the pace for now.
Lewis tries to reverse the position but Rodey maintains control.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rodey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
