Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saippua Kauppias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Roberts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Saippua Kauppias!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A good leg kick by Roberts.
Kauppias throws a big shot that misses.
Kauppias tries to score a power double leg takedown but Roberts sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kauppias somewhat.
Kauppias misses with a takedown attempt

and Roberts counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kauppias won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kauppias sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Roberts is thwarting Kauppias's attempts to control the position.
Roberts with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Roberts is stalling here. Kauppias is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Roberts seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Kauppias has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The ground and pound from Kauppias seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kauppias fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Roberts dodges the ground and pound from Kauppias.
Roberts is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Roberts is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kauppias connects with a decent elbow.
Roberts parries the strikes from Kauppias easily there. Kauppias is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Roberts to escape.
Kauppias prevents Roberts from escaping the position.
Kauppias sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Roberts is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Roberts knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kauppias on the ground.
Kauppias tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Kauppias has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Roberts takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Kauppias in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Kauppias throws a strike aimed at the side of Roberts's head but Roberts avoids it well.

Kauppias sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Roberts defending well though.
Kauppias throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Roberts on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Roberts tries to get out of the position.
Roberts blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kauppias.
Roberts avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kauppias.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kauppias looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Kauppias landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Kauppias wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roberts keeps working.
Kauppias wants to free his trapped foot but Roberts is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kauppias is nestled in close to Roberts, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Roberts is not content to let Kauppias control the position.
Roberts is trying to stand.

Kauppias is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kauppias landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Roberts is staying active underneath Kauppias, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kauppias not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Well, if Kauppias is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kauppias thows a huge punch but Roberts dodges it nicely.
Kauppias wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roberts keeps working.
Kauppias is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kauppias sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saippua Kauppias dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kauppias misses with a hook

and Roberts counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kauppias!
Kauppias is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Roberts's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Roberts in particular looking to stall.
Roberts trying to control the action but Kauppias is working from the bottom.
Kauppias is looking for a sweep. Roberts is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Roberts wants to pass the guard but Kauppias is defending well.
Roberts thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kauppias is trying to maintain the position but Roberts is very close to passing his half guard.
Kauppias is pressing down on Roberts's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Saippua Kauppias has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kauppias tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Roberts trying to control but Kauppias is working from the bottom.
Roberts will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Roberts wants to pass the guard but Kauppias is keeping the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Roberts got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kauppias has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Roberts has managed to get both his arms back between Kauppias's legs - danger averted.

Roberts is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kauppias has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Roberts is looking to defend but Kauppias has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Roberts! Kauppias pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Roberts taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Saippua Kauppias!
