Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fahad Al Qarni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bjorn Sonnen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Qarni has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Fahad Al Qarni has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fahad Al Qarni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bjorn Sonnen!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al Qarni shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sonnen defends it nicely.

Al Qarni is breathing heavily.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Sonnen is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Sonnen is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Sonnen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Al Qarni. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Al Qarni postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Al Qarni tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Al Qarni has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sonnen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Al Qarni has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Al Qarni postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Sonnen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Al Qarni asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Al Qarni is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sonnen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Al Qarni has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sonnen is pushing Al Qarni's head away, looking to escape. Al Qarni manages to hold on to the position though.

Al Qarni is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Sonnen is trying to escape and Al Qarni transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Sonnen is forced to tap! Nice work there by Al Qarni! Very nice indeed!
