And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz shoots and misses
and Matthew connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Humberto Ruiz has been cut.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Matthew.
Matthew swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Matthew tries a head kick but it misses.
Ruiz is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Matthew moves into range and clinches up with Ruiz.
Ruiz is trying to break free.
Matthew is trying to stall.
Matthew is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Matthew has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ruiz uses from the top position.
Matthew is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Ruiz wants to get up but he can't break Matthew's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruiz cracks Matthew with a big right hand but Matthew just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Matthew is trying to control Ruiz's posture but Ruiz avoids it.

Matthew has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ruiz is working away from the top position though.

Ruiz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Matthew wants to control but Ruiz is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Kyle Matthew has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Matthew lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ruiz's sensitive parts.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Matthew rushes Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Matthew escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew closes the distance and pushes Ruiz back into the cage.
Ruiz wants to break the clinch but can't.

Matthew's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Matthew decides to stand and escape the position.

Ruiz is trying to pull guard but Matthew has him pressed against the cage.

Matthew is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Matthew breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Humberto Ruiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Matthew scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Matthew pushes Ruiz up against the cage in a clinch.
Matthew avoiding damage.
Ruiz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matthew pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Ruiz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Matthew has Ruiz pressed against the cage, preventing Ruiz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Ruiz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Matthew fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ruiz tries to keep at a distance but Matthew has taken the fight into the clinch.

Ruiz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Matthew walks away with a smile on his face. Ruiz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Some wild striking there from Matthew.

Matthew gets a clinch.

Matthew has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ruiz clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Matthew wants to control but Ruiz is keeping busy.
Matthew has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Ruiz.
Matthew controlling the position well here. Ruiz rolled but Matthew kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Matthew lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Matthew controls the action.
Matthew lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Ruiz is trapped and Matthew is scoring with shots to the head and body.


Ruiz is rocked!
Matthew connects with a couple of big shots that have Ruiz covering up! Oh, this looks bad for Ruiz! Matthew fires away with several more unanswered shots and the referee has no choice but to step in! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
