PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Agustin Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aiden Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Agustin Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aiden Drake!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Drake clinches up against the cage.
Drake trying to land knees to the body.
Ellis can't get the takedown.
Drake is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Ellis to keep the fight standing.
Ellis blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Drake tries to throw a body punch but Ellis avoids it by throwing Drake back against the cage.
Ellis jumps guard but Drake turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Ellis is fighting off a takedown attempt but Drake is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ellis to the mat. Ellis regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Drake trying to control but Ellis is working from the bottom.
Drake is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Ellis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ellis trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Ellis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ellis is trying to control the position from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Aiden Drake hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Drake doesn't manage to clinch there - Ellis circles away.
Ellis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ellis has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Agustin Ellis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drake misses with a takedown
and Ellis counters with a series of strikes. Drake will be more careful next time no doubt.
Drake misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Drake wants to clinch up but Ellis keeps it at a distance.

Ellis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Drake pinned against the cage. Drake gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Drake tries to clinch up
and Ellis counters with a nice body shot.

Drake has taken the fight to the clinch.
Drake goes for a takedown attempt but Ellis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Drake has closed the distance and engaged Ellis in a clinch.

Ellis manages to pull guard.
Ellis keeping full guard, as Drake tries to pass.

Drake keeps trying to improve his position.
Drake wants to control from the top but Ellis keeps moving.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Drake has eaten all the pies!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Aiden Drake was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Drake misses with a head kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Drake pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Drake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ellis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Drake gets a clinch.
Ellis misses with the head strike.

Drake ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Drake no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ellis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Drake keeping moving, preventing Ellis from controlling successfully.
Ellis would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aiden Drake dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ellis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Drake.
Drake tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ellis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Drake looks to throw a body kick
and Ellis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Ellis wants to clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ellis.
Aiden Drake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Left hook, right uppercut from Drake.


It looks like Agustin Ellis has been cut.
Drake lands a right hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Drake throws a head kick but Ellis moves out of range.

Drake moves into the clinch successfully.
Ellis stops a takedown attempt from Drake.
Ellis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Drake smiles and moves away.
Ellis shoots in and drives through. Drake sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Agustin Ellis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Drake misses with a two punch combination.
Aiden Drake is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ellis avoids a punch combination nicely.

Drake forces Ellis back against the cage and clinches.

Drake is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ellis gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Ellis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Drake pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Drake moves in looking to clinch but Ellis pushes him off.

Drake clinches with his opponent.
Drake has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Ellis avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Ellis misses with a punch to the body.

Ellis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ellis keeps the fight on the outside.
Drake throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Drake throws an overhand right that lands on Ellis's shoulder, as Ellis tries to avoid the shot.
Drake throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ellis looking to score a takedown here. Drake is defending well but Ellis drives through and ends up in Drake's guard.

Drake looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Drake is breathing heavily.
Drake wants to sweep here but Ellis controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drake utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Drake throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Ellis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ellis is in close to Drake's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Drake has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Ellis has passed into side control.
Drake struggling a bit here.

Ellis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ellis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ellis throws a strike aimed at the side of Drake's head but Drake avoids it well.
Ellis tries to score with some ground and pound. Drake controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Drake struggling a bit here.
Drake is not content to let Ellis control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Drake is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aiden Drake showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Agustin Ellis's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Drake leaves Ellis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Drake closes the distance and clinches up with Ellis, looking for a takedown. Drake pushes Ellis against the cage but Ellis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Drake throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Ellis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Drake tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Drake misses with a head kick.
Aiden Drake seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Drake missing with a left hand there. Ellis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Drake gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ellis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Drake gets through Ellis's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Ellis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Drake shoots in and drives through. Ellis sprawls well.

Ellis shoots in for a double leg but Drake sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Agustin Ellis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ellis fails with a takedown attempt.

Ellis gets the takedown into side control.
Ellis working the ground and pound but Drake is defending the strikes.
Drake wants to control but Ellis postures up.
Agustin Ellis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Drake is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ellis has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Ellis looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Drake is looking to get back to his feet here but Ellis is keeping cool and he's managed to take Drake's back.

Drake manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ellis's guard. Nice work there by Drake.

Drake gets to his feet - Ellis follows without any prompting.
Drake throws a sloppy head kick

and Ellis counters with a shoot takedown. Drake fights it but they end up in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drake looking for a sweep. Not yet Drake, not yet.
Drake is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ellis trying to control but Drake is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ellis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ellis trying to control the position from guard on top but Drake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ellis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ellis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ellis is looking to work some ground and pound but Drake has wrist control.
Ellis throws a big elbow that misses.
Ellis with a flurry of punches that miss.

Drake is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ellis is aware though and is defending well.

Ellis distracts Drake with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Ellis wants to stand and escape but instead Drake has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ellis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drake is one step ahead there.
Ellis keeping moving, preventing Drake from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Agustin Ellis.
I think Drake has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
