Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Freddy West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Luc LaFrance (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jean Luc LaFrance is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Freddy West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Luc LaFrance!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt LaFrance.
LaFrance throws a wild body kick that West sees coming a mile off.
West moves out of range as LaFrance throws a body kick.
LaFrance shoots in looking for a takedown but West manages to keep the fight standing, pushing LaFrance's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
LaFrance connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between West's hands.
West blocks a head kick by LaFrance.
LaFrance throws a front kick aimed at West's knee but West avoids it well.
LaFrance scoring well with a low kick there.

West closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. LaFrance quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
West slips a nice elbow through LaFrance's hands, connecting with LaFrance's forehead.
West content to control rather than advance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
West trying to pass the guard but LaFrance defending well.

West is taking a breather. LaFrance says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
West working the head and body with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

West is looking for a kimura but LaFrance is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for West to get the leverage.
West lands strikes from half guard.
West trying to pass the guard but LaFrance defending well.
West perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
LaFrance looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
West landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
West knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for LaFrance on the ground.
West trying to mount his opponent but LaFrance defends it.
West stops LaFrance from getting back to his feet.
LaFrance has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. West is working away from the top position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
West is looking to advance position but LaFrance won't allow it.

West sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. LaFrance defending well though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
West is taking a breather. LaFrance says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
West drops an elbow to the side of LaFrance's head.
LaFrance has hold of West's hands but West slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
West passes to side control.
West happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
LaFrance is being controlled here.

West tries for a kimura but LaFrance is defending well.
LaFrance takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
West works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
West wants to lay and pray for a moment but LaFrance keeps working.
West scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at LaFrance to see if he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy West dominated that round.
That's time! West's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Some bone on bone action there as West checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
West takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
LaFrance throws out a loose jab but West uses good head movement to avoid it.
LaFrance lands a head kick!
LaFrance looks to land a body kick but West moved away.
Freddy West is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice uppercut there from West.
LaFrance pulls out of a head kick attempt.
West avoids a kick to the body.
A looping hook to the body misses from West. LaFrance does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jean Luc LaFrance seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
LaFrance tries a head kick but it misses.

West is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in LaFrance's half guard.
West is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
LaFrance is breathing heavily.
West drops an elbow to the side of LaFrance's head.

Freddy West overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
West's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
LaFrance on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
West wants to pass to mount but LaFrance is defending the position.
West is working hard here to advance position.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
West seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down LaFrance for as long as he can get away with.

Freddy West has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

LaFrance tries to keep at a distance but West has taken the fight into the clinch.

LaFrance is looking to break free of the clinch but West has double underhooks.
LaFrance tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. West smiles and moves away.
West takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
LaFrance throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

West gets a clinch.
West lands a body punch.
West lands with a light punch inside.
West taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
West seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
West lands an elbow inside.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
West lands with a short shot to the head.
LaFrance tries to land a knee to the head but West blocks with his arms.
West crunches a lovely knee into LaFrance's ribcage.
West presses LaFrance against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
LaFrance tries to circle away but West has him pinned against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

West lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down LaFrance.
West doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
West throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
A short right hand to the side of the head by West.

West tightens his grip and picks LaFrance up, before dumping him to the ground. LaFrance manages to land in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
West is in close to LaFrance's body, working some short punches and elbows.
West is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that LaFrance can do to turn this around?

West is working LaFrance over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


West misses with a body shot.

West shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than West was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
West is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down LaFrance's shoulder. That is not cool.
West creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
West happy to just control the position for now.
LaFrance wants to control but West postures up.
West controlling from side mount.
LaFrance takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
West working the ground and pound.

West in side control lands a decent elbow.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
West lands an elbow.
West scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at LaFrance to see if he's OK.

West lands an elbow.
West is chipping away with strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
LaFrance is letting West control him for a moment.
LaFrance taking punishment in the form of punches.
Jean Luc LaFrance has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Freddy West is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

LaFrance is being controlled here.
West lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
West content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Freddy West wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

West gets a double leg takedown into LaFrance's guard.
LaFrance being controlled here, momentarily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
LaFrance can't keep his opponent in guard - West advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for West, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
