PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Fitzgerald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Joe Young was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Pedro Fitzgerald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Young!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Young rushes Fitzgerald and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Young looking to slow down the pace here.
Young tries to pull guard but Fitzgerald won't allow it.
Fitzgerald stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The referee is keeping an eye on Young - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Fitzgerald is looking to control Young's arms but Young gets an underhook and turns him. Now Fitzgerald has his back to the cage.
Young stalling in the clinch but Fitzgerald improves position.

Young breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fitzgerald keeps the fight on the outside.
Young connects with a solid leg kick.
Young cracks Fitzgerald with a good jab.


It looks like Pedro Fitzgerald has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Young shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fitzgerald as he jumps to the side.
Young fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fitzgerald avoids it really well and circles away.
Pedro Fitzgerald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Young.

Sloppy strikes from Fitzgerald. Those never looked like landing.
Fitzgerald rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Young moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Young checks a leg kick nicely.
Young has his takedown stuffed
and Fitzgerald counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Young lands a head shot.

Young scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Young content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Young tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Young has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Fitzgerald is looking to regain half guard here but Young keeps moving and retains side control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joe Young was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Young clinches with his opponent.

Fitzgerald tries to work over Young's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Young landing knees to the head.
Stalling in the clinch from Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Young.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Fitzgerald unloads a knee to the mid-section.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fitzgerald trying to control the position but instead, Young has worked for underhooks and has pushed Fitzgerald into the cage.
Fitzgerald tries to land a knee to the head but Young blocks with his arms.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Fitzgerald looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Young passes into side control.
Young in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Fitzgerald is not content to let Young control the position.

Young has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Fitzgerald is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Young yanks on the arm and Fitzgerald is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Young.
