PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Case (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Auruze Boruze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Auruze Boruze will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ramon Case!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Auruze Boruze!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Case closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Case could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Case turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Case manages to end up in side control.
Case wants to control but Boruze is keeping him busy.

Case thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Case wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boruze keeps working.
Boruze really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Case. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Boruze is looking for a sweep.

Case swings around for an armbar but Boruze sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Case's guard.
Boruze tries to free his leg and advance position but Case is retaining full guard.
Boruze trying to control but Case is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Case controls Boruze momentarily but Boruze frees himself.
Boruze makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Boruze advances position into side control!
Boruze controls the position.
Boruze working away.
Case gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Case tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Boruze is working for a submission of some sort.
Case is looking for a sweep. Boruze is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Case looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are battling for position here. Case manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boruze has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Case is proving hard to escape from.
Case keeping moving, preventing Boruze from controlling successfully.
Case trying to keep a closed guard but Boruze is proving a slippery customer.

Boruze got a little sloppy there for a moment and Case has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Boruze has managed to get both his arms back between Case's legs - danger averted.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boruze is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Case looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Case is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Case is breathing heavily.
Boruze is trying to control but can't.
Case tries to stand and escape but Boruze is controlling the position.
Boruze is looking to improve his position.
Case thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boruze's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boruze can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boruze tries to get to full guard but Case has control of the leg.
Boruze preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Case tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Case shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Case was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boruze is looking to regain half guard here but Case keeps moving and retains side control.
Boruze is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Case dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Case clinches with his opponent.

Boruze gets control of Case's arms and successfully pulls guard. Boruze will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Case really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Boruze is trying to hold Case in close to prevent damage but Case has managed to pass into half guard.
Case seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Case seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Boruze wants to get back to full guard.
Case wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boruze keeps working.

Case is looking to take a break and control but Boruze is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Case closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boruze to the mat! Boruze manages to get full guard.
Boruze is breathing heavily.

Case trying to control but Boruze is working from the bottom.
Case wants to stand but Boruze is controlling his posture from full guard.
Ramon Case overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Case pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boruze is keeping the position for now.
Boruze keeping moving, preventing Case from controlling successfully.

Ramon Case has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Case drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Boruze has a closed guard, preventing Case from standing up.
Boruze looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Boruze has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Case is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Boruze.
You can see the frustration on Boruze's face as Case controls the position.

Case wants to stand but Boruze is controlling his arm.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Boruze looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Case might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Boruze wants to pass to mount but Case is defending the position.

Boruze is working for an americana but Case has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Boruze was thinking about the submission.

Boruze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boruze trying to control the position from guard on top but Case is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Case working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Boruze doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Boruze manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Case not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Boruze must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Boruze wanted to stand there but Case had control of the position.

Case had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Boruze defends it easily.
Boruze slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Case not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Auruze Boruze has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Case is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ramon Case is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boruze working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Case's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ramon Case.
Well Case has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
