And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Masters !
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Masters counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Souza gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Masters counters with a thumping low kick.
Souza misses with a takedown attempt
and Masters counters with a low kick, right behind Souza 's knee.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ronaldo Souza. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Masters counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Masters counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Souza slips a straight right by Masters .
Souza tries for a takedown but Masters circles away easily
and Masters counters with a straight right hand.
Masters looks to land a left hand but Souza moved out of range nicely.
Souza staying out of range there.
Masters throws a leg kick but Souza sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Souza fails with the takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Souza gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Masters makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Souza really felt that one!
Masters has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Masters motions for Souza to come forward. Masters throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Souza feints and as Masters raises his hands in defense, Souza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Souza trying to control the position from guard on top but Masters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Masters looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Souza drops back, looking for a kneebar! Masters looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Masters looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Masters !
Masters is chipping away with strikes.
Masters really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Souza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Masters scoring with punches and elbows.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Souza is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Masters 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Masters not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Masters is looking to take a break and control but Souza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Souza makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Souza.

Souza has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Masters should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Souza has tightened it up now! Masters should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
