The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maddox is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Plebeev has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Plebeev!

Plebeev drops back looking for a leg! Maddox is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Maddox manages to kick Plebeev off! Plebeev jumps back into Maddox's guard.

Maddox escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Plebeev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Maddox wants to sweep but no luck.

Maddox had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Plebeev is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maddox Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Plebeev's back instead.
Maddox will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Plebeev manages to reverse the position and now he's in Maddox's guard. Nice work there by Plebeev.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Maddox decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Maddox is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Plebeev is just riding it out for now. Maddox eventually gives up the hold.

Maddox drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maddox jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Maddox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Plebeev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Maddox tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Plebeev tries to close the distance and clinch but Maddox swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
