PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carwyn Norman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Klaus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross Klaus is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carwyn Norman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ross Klaus!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Klaus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Norman shoots in and drives through. Klaus sprawls well.
Klaus displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Norman.
Klaus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Klaus changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Norman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Norman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Norman is trying to control Klaus's posture but Klaus avoids it.
Klaus has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Klaus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Norman is looking to escape.
Norman wants to hold on but Klaus pushes him away.
Norman tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Norman is working hard here to advance position.
Norman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Norman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Klaus on the ground.
Klaus wants to get back to his feet but Norman is holding on tight.

Norman defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Klaus.
Klaus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Norman is looking to escape.
Klaus controlling the pace for now.

Norman is desperately trying to improve his position but Klaus has a good base and remains in mount.
Klaus scoring with strikes but Norman is staying in there.

Klaus mounts Norman! Really nice guard pass there!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Norman tries to lock up and control but Klaus gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Klaus lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Norman hang on?

Klaus is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Klaus throws the kick towards the body but Norman avoids it.
Klaus thows a body shot but no joy.
Klaus throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Norman's waist but Norman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Klaus off to one side.

Klaus fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Norman sprawls well initially but Klaus persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Norman is breathing heavily.
Norman is in trouble now - Klaus has advanced to mount!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
BOOM! Klaus connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Klaus is standing up, even though he is in mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Klaus closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Norman to the mat! Norman manages to get full guard.
Klaus passes Norman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Klaus frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Klaus looking to control and managing it successfully.
Klaus is looking to stand but Klaus has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Klaus wants to control the pace but Norman is squirming around nicely.
Klaus works his way to his opponent's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Klaus dominated that round.
That's time! Norman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Klaus pushes Norman up against the cage in a clinch.
Norman looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Norman tries to break the clinch but Klaus is controlling the position.
Klaus misses with a body punch.

Klaus has hold of one of Norman's legs. Norman is fighting the takedown attempt but Klaus gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Klaus trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Norman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Klaus working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Klaus drops back looking for a leg! Norman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Norman manages to kick Klaus off! Klaus jumps back into Norman's guard.
Klaus trying to control the position from guard on top but Norman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Klaus pushes down on Norman's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Klaus seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Klaus tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Klaus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Klaus passes to full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Klaus avoids the attempt from Norman to control.
Klaus controlling from the full mount.
Norman is trying to escape the mount.

Klaus is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Norman has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Norman tries to reverse the position but Klaus maintains control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Klaus controlling his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Klaus has control of Norman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Norman regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Klaus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Norman is looking to escape.

Klaus sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Norman prevents Klaus from taking his back.
Klaus takes Norman's back.

Klaus is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Norman is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Klaus gets his way!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Klaus is persistently looking for the submission but Norman is defending it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Klaus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Norman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Klaus wants to stand but Norman has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Klaus not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Klaus has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Klaus is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Klaus controlling from the full mount.
Klaus has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Norman keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Klaus working for a guillotine from mount but Norman is in no mood to give up.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Klaus landing strikes, looking to finish!

Klaus is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Norman has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Norman!
Klaus pulls Norman in close to his closed guard and prevents Norman from doing any damage or advancing position.

Klaus is adopting a defensive guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ross Klaus hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Klaus drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Klaus wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Norman, who protects the arm well.

Klaus tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Norman is trying to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ross Klaus comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Klaus has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
