PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Hoench (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Rabago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoench comes to the cage accompanied by Crank it. Rabago is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dance Gavin Dance - Strawberry Swisher Pt 2. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daniel Hoench!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Adam Rabago!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Hoench. Those never looked like landing.
Hoench tries a head kick but it misses.
Rabago has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Hoench looks to score with a jab to the body but Rabago is just out of range.

Daniel Hoench seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rabago dives in and grabs Hoench's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hoench pushes down on Rabago's head and hops out.
Hoench swings for the body but Rabago moves out of range.

Rabago shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hoench manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Rabago prevents Hoench from getting back to his feet.

Rabago is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hoench is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hoench has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hoench stands and steps away. Rabago gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Rabago will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hoench looks to land a body kick but Rabago moved away.
Hoench tries to clinch but Rabago moves out of range.

and Hoench holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hoench is looking to escape.

Rabago seems to be looking for submissions.

Rabago is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hoench doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rabago.

Rabago seems to be working for a kimura but Hoench defends the submission attempt.

Horrible takedown by Rabago or perhaps it was just good defense by Hoench which made him look bad.

Hoench fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rabago manages to avoid it.
Hoench looks to land a body kick but Rabago moved away.
Hoench throws a body punch but Rabago moves out of range.

Rabago fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hoench sprawls well initially but Rabago persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rabago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hoench is trying to maintain the position but Rabago is very close to passing his half guard.

Hoench makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

and Rabago counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hoench's guard now.
Hoench wants to stand up but Rabago is controlling him.
Rabago stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hoench swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rabago drops back looking for a leg! Hoench is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hoench manages to kick Rabago off! Rabago jumps back into Hoench's guard.

Rabago postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hoench is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rabago, into his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rabago looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hoench tries to stand but Rabago is controlling from the bottom.

Adam Rabago showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hoench tries to kick Rabago off but Rabago keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Hoench gets caught napping as Rabago dives in and scores a takedown. Hoench manages to retain guard.

Rabago is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Rabago has gone for a leg lock! Hoench slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rabago's guard.
Rabago has his hands on Hoench's head, controlling the position.

Hoench decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hoench pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Hoench loads up on a big right hand but Rabago slips the punch.
Adam Rabago is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rabago fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hoench avoids it really well and circles away.
Rabago dives in for a single leg takedown but Hoench sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hoench tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rabago avoids it.

Rabago pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Rabago fails with a takedown attempt.
Daniel Hoench has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Rabago.
Rabago has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hoench.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rabago enables Hoench to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rabago manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rabago wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

I would just about give that final round to Adam Rabago.
