The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Ben Hemmingworth and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McLennan looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sampson!
McLennan is looking to take a break and control but Sampson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Sampson wants to control but McLennan postures up.
Sampson is not content to let McLennan control the position.
McLennan wants to stand but Sampson has his arm trapped.

McLennan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McLennan working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

McLennan clinches up against the cage.
McLennan is pushing Sampson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

McLennan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sampson regains guard immediately.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McLennan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McLennan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sampson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for McLennan but great work by Sampson.

Sampson is looking to take a break and control but McLennan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sampson stops McLennan from getting back to his feet.
McLennan is breathing heavily.
McLennan is looking for a sweep. Sampson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sampson trying to control the action but McLennan is working from the bottom.

We're going to have a standup here because Jackson Sampson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Sampson closes this distance looking for a takedown but McLennan circles away.

McLennan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells McLennan's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

McLennan makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

McLennan keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sampson's head.

Max McLennan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
