Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ray Barber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Non Charles!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles moves to clinch but Barber breaks away
and Charles takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Charles closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Barber tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Charles tries to stand but Barber is controlling his head.
Barber really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Barber is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Charles has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Barber looks to move to half guard but instead Charles has passed into mount! Damn!
Charles wants to stand but Barber is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Barber knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Charles on the ground.
Charles lands with some strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Barber is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Charles takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Charles has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barber is desperately trying to improve his position but Charles has a good base and remains in mount.
Charles trying to control but Barber is having none of it.
Charles thowing shots but they're missing.
Charles is trying to take his opponent's back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barber tries to reverse the position but Charles maintains control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Charles lands a couple of good shots and Barber has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Charles's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Charles loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Barber hold on?


Barber is rocked!
Barber takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Oh Barber is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Charles biding his time, looking for the opening.

Charles is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Barber with him. Barber is trying to defend but Charles has an arm under the chin now! Barber grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Non Charles!
