PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Cameron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cole Slaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cole Slaw was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruben Cameron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cole Slaw!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slaw has his takedown stuffed

and Cameron counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cameron.
Slaw goes for a takedown attempt but Cameron pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Slaw has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Cameron wants to stand but Slaw has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Slaw is working an open guard so Cameron takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Slaw is defended easily by Cameron.

Slaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cameron sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Slaw somewhat.

Cameron closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Slaw has eaten all the pies!

Cameron decides to stand and escape the position.
Cole Slaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cameron misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A slapping leg kick lands for Cameron.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Slaw moves into range and clinches up with Cameron.

Cameron breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cameron defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Slaw.
Cameron really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cameron pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Slaw closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cameron escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Slaw tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cameron defends well and Slaw ends up having to push Cameron into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Slaw goes for a double leg but Cameron avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cameron continues to drive forward.

Cameron's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cameron throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Cameron scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slaw is breathing heavily.
Cameron controlling the action here.

Cameron winds up and cracks Slaw with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Cameron decides to return to a standing position.
A head kick misses from Slaw.

Cameron fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Slaw, pushing him back against the cage.
Cameron is working for takedown but Slaw is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cameron is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Slaw is just riding it out for now. Cameron eventually gives up the hold.
Cameron wants to stand up but Slaw has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Cameron stops Slaw from getting back to his feet.
Cameron is thwarting Slaw's attempts to control the position.
It looks like Cameron is going to stand back up.

Cameron is working for a kimura here but Slaw manages to reverse the position and he's now in Cameron's guard.
Cameron wants to sweep but no luck.
Slaw wants to control from the top but Cameron keeps moving.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slaw wants to stand but Cameron has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cameron tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Cameron will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Slaw tries to keep at a distance but Cameron has taken the fight into the clinch.

Slaw is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Slaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Slaw wanted to stand there but Cameron had control of the position.

Cameron looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Slaw wants to stand but Cameron is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cameron is pulling down on Slaw's head. It's preventing any offense from Slaw, at least for the moment.
Cameron knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Slaw on the ground.

Nice takedown defense from Cameron. No joy for Slaw on that attempt.
Cole Slaw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

and Cameron counters with a nice leg kick.

Slaw has Cameron up against the cage in a clinch.

Cameron has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Slaw uses from the top position.
