PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Tubbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Zarco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Zarco will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joshua Tubbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rodrigo Zarco!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Columbo Gatti.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tubbs tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tubbs shoots in looking for a takedown. Zarco tries to sprawl out of it but Tubbs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zarco manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Tubbs walks into a straight right hand from Zarco.
Tubbs dodges the punch combination from Zarco.
Tubbs fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Zarco avoids it really well and circles away.

Tubbs clinches with his opponent.

Tubbs breaks from the clinch.
Zarco lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Tubbs at a distance.
Zarco leaves Tubbs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joshua Tubbs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tubbs is breathing heavily.
Zarco throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zarco throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Zarco, as that shot connected.
Zarco comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Zarco shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Tubbs eats them both and turns towards Zarco to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Zarco lands with a right hand.
Zarco tries to land a leg kick but Tubbs saw it coming and moves away.
Zarco stalks Tubbs and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Tubbs's face. Tubbs staggers backwards, shaken.
Zarco pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Tubbs back to the cage. Zarco follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Zarco's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Zarco duly obliges.
Tubbs fails to land with a series of punches.
Tubbs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tubbs shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zarco as he avoids it easily.
Tubbs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zarco scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Zarco works over Tubbs's head and body with a nice combination.
Tubbs takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Tubbs is rocked!
Zarco lands a jab-cross combination.
Oh Tubbs is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zarco scores with a decent looking hook.
Tubbs seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Zarco shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Tubbs is backing up but Zarco catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Tubbs covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Zarco Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rodrigo Zarco!
